The Perfect SUV by Bubba734 from the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia on 08/17/2003. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-Door 4WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Reliability, Handling, Comfort, Seating arrangement, Instrument panel, Console, everything.
Cons: Can't think of any!
Overall review: The best vehicle I've ever owned! No other full-sized SUV even comes close to this truck. I bought it new in 1997, and in six years have NEVER had a mechanical problem. It has 75,000 miles on it and I just replaced the tires for the first time!!! Plenty of interior room and enough useful gadgets to please anyone. More than enough muscle to conquer West Virginia's mountains! A GREAT vehicle!

The truth about good SUV's by Honest Guy on 07/28/2003. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-Door 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: This is a nice truck. There is plenty of size to fit the whole family comfortably. It rides very smooth with a full load, a little worse with just me in it. The 350 is a great engine and has plenty of power for towing. I would recommend the leather seats, they are much nicer than the ones in my Acura! I haven't had a single problem with the truck yet. There is plenty of cargo room and the 4x4 is very nice. It is a safe truck, weighing more that 5,000 pounds.
Cons: The main thing that gets me about the tahoe is the interior. The leather is plush but if you pay 37,000+ for a vehicle it better have at least carpeted mats, GM gives you cheap vinyl mats. The knobs for a/c and accessories are cheap and the center console could be better. The sun-visors are a joke too. A foreign SUV will have much more quality interior and cost the same. Beyond the interior there is the brakes, they are very spongy, haven't had to replace them yet but the brakes are built for 2,000 pound car not a 5,000 pound truck. These are all just minimal dislikes and really aren't that big of a deal.
Overall review: Overall this is an excellent vehicle. The interior could be a little better and the brakes could too. It is a little pricey at 35,000+, and it is a gas guzzler as well (12-15) mpg. It tows excellent and will take you anywhere, it may just be a little expensive getting there, but compared to other SUV's I would say GM has make one of the best. Size, Power, Comfort, Reliability, what more could you ask for? The thing that gets me about SUV buyers is that people waste their money on a foreign vehicle with no size and no power, what the hell is the point in owning one if you can't pack anything in it or tow anything. Don't waste your money on one of those, buy a Tahoe and get what SUV's were built for. If Size and Power aren't attractive, then save money on sticker price and gas and just buy a sedan.

Maintenance nightmare ' 97 by Joe NEW MEXICO on 06/16/2003. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-Door 4WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Love the look, smooth ride, lots of power ,good mileage, tows great, quiet inside.
Cons: Engine replaced 1time,transmission is the worst Ive ever seen, rebuilt twice, brakes are a joke, steering is variable speed adj.but dives dangerously either left or right unexpectedly, have to always be on your toes especially in the snow.Should be recalled on the steering for sure,ABS light has always come on since new and when mud gets underneath anti lock system vibrates like mad and just about is in effective.
Overall review: Live on a ranch and have owned many vehicles, have put them to the test. This Tahoe has been a maintenance dissapointment.Love its look paint is great ,love chevys but this one has almost made me switch completely to another make especially since they didnt stand behind their product.Avoid buying this year Tahoe for its tranny is terrible, brakes are no good, the steering is absolutely scarry, and the engine had to be replaced when brand new.Never owned a lemon before but this one might just be it,having to fix the transmission again, brakes dont last past 15k no matter what type we have tried.

G-M-C -GOT A MECHANIC COMING !!! by Not Happy in Stallings, NC on 01/14/2003. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-Door 4WD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: I like the way it looks and the way it rides when you are on a trip.very roomy and comfortable.
Cons: We have had to have the intake gaskets replaced, brakes done several times, had to buy 600.00 dollars worth of new tires in less than 30K miles, had to have rear axle seals, replaced the alternator parts 250.00, now at 70K engine knocks.
Overall review: As for the looks of the truck I would recomend it highly. But for the proformance of it I would not recomend it!
