Mini Van from Hell by Discusted in Calgary on 08/19/2001. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Venture 4-Door Extended, Owned 4 years.
Pros: (No data provided)
Cons: I've had a Check Engine light on for 18 months now . My GM Dealer has replaced the Computer, Ignition Module and various other parts and the problem is still there. Doesn't say much for GM service.
Overall review: I will look at buying a Chrysler product next time around before I ld ever buy from GM again.

Chevy Venture short version - lots of tiny problems by Gail from Westborough, MA on 04/15/2002. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Venture 4-Door, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Great accessories, engine is powerful, great on snow and ice, easy to handle
Cons: Since I bought it, there's been a lot of little problems - had to replace the headliner straight from the factory (stained), the rear washer has been "fixed" 3 times but still doesn't work; the interior handle on the hatch split and broke when the van was only 2 years old; the door bumpers on the sliding side door don't stay on, so when you slide the door shut, it bumps the drivers door and chips the paint; the padding on the interior of the car surrounding the windshield has been fixed 3 times and it still slides up and away from the windshield; had a problem with the battery where it wouldn't recharge correctly, and it would completely die.
Overall review: The van is very nice. Next time I would buy the extended model to get more room. At least there have been no major mechanical problems.

Have it checked. by A CarPoint Consumer on 03/08/2002. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Venture 4-Door Extended, Owned 5 years.
Pros: It is spacious and the interior is good with individual seats that can be removed to accomodate cargo
Cons: Braking system is soft. Watch out! This engine model has a problem with the manifold gasket. It leaks and and causes the car to overheat because it leaks coolant into the manifold. In our area, most of the car dealers cannot find the gaskets and they are on backorder. This is a costly repair as the engine has to be pulled resulting in high labor costs.
Overall review: Low- We've had several recalls on the van from seat latches to the slider door, then the engine problem. I'd be careful especially if buying a used van that may experience the same gasket problem. If buying used, have the manifold gasket checked before you purchase it.

NIGHTMARE VEHICLE by dissatisfied owner on 02/12/2010. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Venture 4-Door, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: It is a nice looking van with a ton of cup holders that are all placed in the strangest places. It handles nice and a lot of room for a family.
Cons: I bought it used with low miles and only drove it 3 months with the check engine light CONTINUALLY going off and on. The interior lights only went on when they were turned on. I paid $500 to figure out the check engine lights and finally after 2 months it overheated. Took it to a mechanic who changed the thermostat (was impossible for husband to change due to placement), still overheated FINALLY found out it is the head gaskets. The mechanic won't fix it due to liability of the motor possibly completely blowing. The rear window washer never did work, the headlights was very dim, gas guzzler.
Overall review: I was soooo happy to have a nice looking comfortable vehicle and the troubles started rolling in with the motor......NEVER EVER AGAIN WOULD I OWN A 97 VENTURE VAN~

An adequate van. by Pat from Packer Land on 04/27/2009. Trim: 1997 Chevrolet Venture 4-Door Extended, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Like car,and have owned since 1998. Currently have 130k on it. Traveled each winter to AZ, 1950 miles. Good mileage and good ride. CD player works great. Vehicle also served us well for annual family camping trips. Kids fly in, so we have to bring tents, s. bags, food, etc.
Cons: Have our share of problems also like other owners. I consider each problem as the cost of doing business for owning a mini van.
Overall review: Like the van. Would consider the Traverse crossover as my next wehicle.
