The best truck by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/31/2004. Trim: 1997 AM General Hummer Hard Top 2-Door, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Biggest truck on the road, will out pull any dually on the road, can go off-road on slopes that jeeps only wish they could go.
Overall review: I think the only reason that jeep people dont like hummers are because they can't afford one. I had an experience once were there was so much mud that a caterpillar bulldozer got stuck and I pulled it out. For those of you who don't know much about the interior, AM General built it the way they did because you don't move when you are off-road.

by Yuehan from Astoria, NY on 06/29/2004. Trim: 1997 AM General Hummer Wagon, Owned 2 years.
Pros: You can inflate and deflate the tires from your dashboard which is important for better traction in difficult terrain. Two separate gas tanks are a plus in case one gets a puncture. A turbo diesel engine is an excellent choice for the Hummer because it can run on kerosene, recycled vegetable oil, home heating oil, and of course diesel which is cheaper than unleaded gas in today's market. The Turbodiesel Hummer averages about 15 mpg on the highway. The body is made of aircraft aluminum which is resistant to rust. The vehicle's height is lower than the average suv and the width is actually a major plus, more suv's could learn from this because the vehicle is almost impossible to rollover!
Cons: The only thing I can find wrong with this vehicle is that the engine is underpowered for this type of vehicle. It should be changed to a Duramax diesel, which is a little more fuel efficient, quieter, and has a tremendous amount of horsepower!
Overall review: The H1 Hummer as an suv is second to none! True, it is not a vehicle for everyone and the average person should have some kind of experience with a large sport utility vehicle before attempting to drive one of these, but you get every dollars worth! This vehicle is pure utility plain and simple. With a lifestyle like mine being an army national guardsman, parachutist, scuba diver, paramotor pilot, skier, camper, a tremendous amount of cargo can be placed in the Hummer or on top if you get the optional roofrack. On mine, I had eight fully grown adults stand on top of it! You won't find plastic, painted bumpers or a spare tire underneath (which is a really bad idea!) like most other suv's. I've been driving H1 Hummers both military and civilian for about 18 years now and have had small sports cars and a small jeep, but I don't think in the near future I will own anything less. If you get a chance to sit in one of these vehicles you'll feel a real sense of adventure and security!
