Solid car built for comfort by Fritz Raleigh on 02/15/2010. Trim: 1997 Acura 3.5RL, Owned 6 years.
Pros: No major mechanical issues, easy to use navigation, Bose sound system, seats comfortable on long trips, very easy to do the maintenance yourself, gated shifter helps make it easy to change gears yourself when you want.
Cons: Suspension is way too soft, which makes for a smooth ride but really awful handling. ABS was a bit too sensitive over choppy pavement making it kick in too soon. Stronger brakes would be nice. The dash lights were a pain to replace and not cheap. Discontinued support for Navigation software since 2001. I had a bad rattle in the front suspension caused by bad bushings which were underbuilt, but it was an easy cheap fix. I did have a relay go bad in ignition that required a tow, but that is the one and only time that happened in 160k miles. Replacing the timing belt at 100k miles, which is normal maintenance was $900+.
Overall review: I have been very pleased with this car, but it was definitely built with 60 year olds in mind. The car hates being pushed, but it was never meant for that. I have replaced the Nav screen and Nav hard drive with a solid state hard drive. The dashboard guage lights had to be replaced, but it is pretty easy to do this work yourself. Overall, this is a solid car with very few issues in 13 years. Mine still runs strong, doesn't use a drop of oil and runs smoothly. This has been a great solid car that still has lots of miles left in it.
