Upstate NY (snowcountry) by ttard on 02/21/2006. Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem Wagon GLX, Owned 7 years.
Pros: On-going saga of a great little car. Excellent fuel economy. 35-38 mpg summer, 30-32 winter. Easy to park, great interior space for a little car. Fantastic reliability. Car is going on 7 yrs. with original battery, headlights, exhaust, clutch. For a small wagon it's got looks. Good visiblity. Car has 138,000 miles.Very easy to work on and do my own maintainence.Ratings above are based on my car with its current mileage. My car has the smaller 1.6L engine.
Cons: It's light so wind moves it around a bit. I live in the land of road salt, so I'm just beginning to see some surface rust this winter.Timing belt. Suzuki has solved this problem in their new cars with a chain. An economy car that needs $300-$400 belt job every 60,000mi. takes some of the economy away.
Overall review: Although I took a chance on this car when I bought it,(Suzuki???), I've come to be a believer in the brand. I did the same thing in 1972 when I took a chance on Subaru and they never let me down either. However; Subaru became to pricey and mileage went down. I'm probably going to give this car to my H.S. senior when he goes off to college this fall and then look into getting myself a new Aerio SX, if I can actually find a Front wheel drive 5sp. Seems like all the dealers have are AWD autos, and I want the extra performance of a manual along with the fuel economy even though I live in an area that gets 120" of snow a year.

Satified owner by An MSN Autos Consumer on 05/14/2003. Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem Wagon GL, Owned 4 years.
Pros: I have had my car 4 1/2 years and it has 100K miles on it. I have replaced brakes, belts and mufflet clamps and that is it. Considering what I paid the car doesn't owe me much but I plan on keeping it another 2 years. Right now, knock on wood, it is still going strong and still cleans up to look pretty good.
Cons: The car is noisy inside, next time will pay a bit more for a car that is more soundproof inside and has a better radio. Also the headrest fabric is always coming undone. I just put a safety pin in it, but it comes out. However again I have a great running car and all I can complain about is some noise and headrest fabric.
Overall review: It has been a super buy for me. I needed a car bad when I bought it and didn't have much to spend. I wanted a new car so that hopefully I would not have many repairs, this car has been great for me, and started faithfully everyday this past freezing winter! and is pretty good in the snow.

Better with age by Tutti Frutti update on 03/13/2003. Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem Wagon GLX, Owned 4 years.
Pros: All I said before plus solid reliability and decent to good in the snow witth snow tires. This is definitely a vehicle that seems to get better with age. You realize you got a decent set of wheels for the price.
Cons: All I said before, very poor resale.
Overall review: A great little second or used car, especially with the prices you can find on these cars. Stay away from the sedan, coffin material.
