Check before you buy!

Trim: 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
All wheel drive. Rugged looks & SUV performance without the atrocious gas mileage. Great in winter on snow & ice.
Cons:
Riding comfort. S-l-o-w to the extreme. Poor lights.
Reliability.
Overall review:
For what is reputed to be a good & reliable vehicle my Outback turned out to be the absolute worst car that I owned in the past 45 years. After 2 years & with only 140,000 kms. (84,000 miles) on it, a cylinder blew in the engine & it was time to say goodbye forever. Last time that I'll buy Subaru!

Great Outback!
by Molly on 02/20/2009.
Trim: 2000 Subaru Outback Limited Wagon, Owned 9 years.

Pros:
Great car! Low maintance, have had this car for 10 1/2 years, still has original battery in it!
Goes great in snow and ice. I live in a state that gets both, had an ice storm this year, and had no problem going up and down hills. I bought this car from Subaru at Huntington, WV, and they have had the absolute best service dept I have ever been involved with. We now own 2 Subaraus, also bought a Baja, and have not had any trouble with it.
Cons:
No storage in front to put my purse. A few rattles and wind noise, but not too bad.
Overall review:
Great car, we are thinking about buying another Subaru, but don't want to trade-in what we have.

2000 Subaru Outback Wagon
by Jim Oakland, NJ on 03/29/2008.
Trim: 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon, Owned 8 years.

Pros:
Smooth ride. Comfortable. Great in inclement weather.
Cons:
At only 50,000 miles, the engine suffers from piston slap and sounds like there is a wrench in it when cold. Surprisingly, from what I read on the internet, this problem is common on some model years. The Subaru service department was cavalier about the problem.
Overall review:
Overall we were happy with this car. The piston slap problem and Subaru's cavalier attitude about it make any future Suburu purchase unlikely.
