Euro Convertible Bargain! by Michael on 02/06/2012. Trim: 1999 Saab 9-3 Convertible, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Bought at 9 yrs & 114K as a more economical alternative to my Silverado. 3.5 yrs and 50K later the only repair was a water pump and replacing most of the light bulbs. The car gets 24-25 mpg commuting on congested Atlanta roads, and up to 33 mpg on the open road. Quality is great, the car is quick, responsive, handles well and is a blast to drive, especially top down. Saab is one of the few compact convertibles with a stick, which I wanted. The uniqueness makes it stand out from BMW's and other European convertibles.
Cons: The only negatives I have experienced are the cars appetite for headlights due to the daytime running lights being on whenever the car is running, and the SID Saab Information Display pixels have begun going out so I don't get a full readout on the display. Overall not bad for a premium convertible purchased with over 100K miles for under $5,000!
Overall review: A friend of mine who is a lifelong GM mechanic was skeptical of the car when I purchased it. He is now in the market for one of his own! I cannot recommend Saab strongly enough. A family friend who worked for Saab had one with over 475,000 miles and the engine/transmission had never been touched in it.

" Will make you a Saab enthusiast" by PJH in NJ on 11/01/2004. Trim: 1999 Saab 9-3 5-Door, Owned 3 years.
Pros: I love the European style and feel of this car. A true great Hatchback. Very Efficient on gas with the 4 cyl engine, but without losing any power. Sometimes I can not believe it is not a manual, the auto is peppy and no lag noted. It is a fun car to drive anywhere, but love it on the highway. 32mpg and usually moving fast
Overall review: great car! lots of fun to drive, good on power and gas ignition in between the seats where it belongs great trunk will make you a Saab fan for life I am currently looking for a sportwagon as a 3rd car

Jet Fighter for the Masses by Timothy Lee of Little Rock, Arkansas on 12/21/2003. Trim: 1999 Saab 9-3 SE 5-Door, Owned 4 years.
Pros: It took me 3 years to truly learn how to drive this car. Saab grows on you. This car can very easily feel like you are driving a jet fighter as per its heritage. I have had no problems at 50,000 miles. Learning to incorporate the right amount of rpm's and turbo boost is a blast and in traffic it truly shines as a jet fighter. Obviously an autobahn cruiser. I have loved learning to drive this car as it should be and am impressed with its build quality and bang for the buck. In this area it is truly a rare sight to see a Saab because the closest dealership is in Memphis a 2 hour drive away. I love its solid feel and how the computer basically controls everything for me.
Cons: With the low profile tires the ride quality on the roads in this state is kidney jolting. Road hazards due to road construction have damaged the "skin" of the car, ie; paint chips and dents. The skin could be a little more stiff to deflect these projectiles. It could use a little more lumbar support in the seats.
Overall review: I love this car. I plan on keeping it as long as I can. A friend of mine has an older model with 400,000 miles on it and is still in love with it. I think that says it all. A jet fighter for the masses to drive and definetely a better buy for the buck than BMW, etc.
