They could have done better!
by Nate from Brooklyn, NY on 06/18/2003.
Trim: 1999 Nissan Pathfinder (1999-5) SE Limited 4WD, Owned 2 years.
1
Pros:
I like the exterior styling compared to the previous Pathfinder. I think that the interior could have used some revision along with the outside. Aside from routine maintainence, I have not had a single problem with the Pathfinder.
Cons:
The engine power is weak compared to other SUVs in its category. I think Nissan definately needs to give it a 5-speed automatic transmission to improve acceleration and to eliminate the hesitation between shifting of gears. The interior dashboard styling lags behind the updated look of the exterior. I don't like the way the rear seats fold down. They need to lay flat.
Overall review:
If your looking for a trouble free SUV with slightly below average performance, then its perfect. On the other hand, If you need performance and a more refined look, then look elsewhere.

Noisy but fun
by bensonintx on 09/23/2001.
Trim: 1999 Nissan Pathfinder (1999-5) XE 2WD, Owned 2 years.
1
Pros:
Easy road handling. Comfortable.
Cons:
Noisy a/c. I have limited visability in side rear.
Overall review:
I like the vehicle & would purchase another if the a/c noise is corrected. There are no vents in the back seat. Also, no speakers in the back of the vehicle.

A good SUV... with a few caveats.
by SilverSage on 05/22/2013.
Trim: 1999 Nissan Pathfinder (1999-5) LE 2WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Fit and finish is impeccable. Definitely a solid, well-built vehicle. Seats are very supportive and the vehicle gives its driver a high riding position. Suspension is taut. 38 cu. ft of cargo space means I can carry a lot of stuff. Very grabby brakes.
Cons:
Definitely underpowered. A 2+ ton vehicle with only 168 hp and less than 200 ft.-lbs of torque with the fuel appetite and mileage of a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser. Really Nissan? What were you thinking? Standing starts are slow and the engine roars when you try to bring the car up to highway speed without a long runway to facilitate merging. The downshifting algorithm for this vehicle's automatic transmission can produce some jerky downshifting. Likewise, accelerating from a standing start can cause similar behavior.while the automatic transmission shifts up..
Overall review:
Overall, it's a good vehicle. I just bought it from a private individual for $5500 cash. Had 127K miles on it when I purchased it in May of 2013. It's nearly a 15 model-year-old car with only 127K miles. From many of the reviews about this model year I've read on the Web, I should be able to get another 100,00 miles out of this vehicle as long as I regularly maintain it.
