A handy wagon. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/21/2008. Trim: 1999 Mercury Sable Wagon LS, Owned 4 years.
Pros: The front seats are excellent, comfortable, roomy, and with a nifty center console. The car has a LOT of oomph for 200 hp, and a really smooth ride, but not floaty. The back seat has a ton of room, and there's a lot of space further back, too.
Cons: It seems that this car was designed for the elderly, who rarely have people in the back seat. The back seat is uncomfortable, unsupportive, has no headrests, and there are literally no pockets, pouches, boxes or cupholders of any kind to be found back there. Also, the power locks on the back doors crapped out. The handling is quite loose, and the pedals are touchy. This makes it feel like the car is driving itself.
Overall review: It's a great car. A bit hard on gas for a mid-size, but it's a BIG mid-size. It's really useful for road trips, and apart from the bare-bones-back-bench it's a perfect family car. It's really powerful when you need to pass or start at an intersection, too.

Great Wagon for running around town. by Phil from Socastee, SC on 01/19/2005. Trim: 1999 Mercury Sable Wagon LS, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Real fun to drive around town with the 24 valve Duratec V-6.
Overall review: I have only 33,000 miles on this 5 1/2 year old car. Feels like I'm driving a brand new car.

Nothing but Problems by Rick from Pekin, IL on 03/29/2004. Trim: 1999 Mercury Sable Wagon LS, Owned 3 years.
Pros: Big, roomy car that doesn't ride too bad
Cons: Maintenance problems are constant! Replaced the transmission at 80,000 miles, alternator, power steering pump, front bearings, brakes, rotors, and the list goes on.....
Overall review: Reliability nightmare. Look elsewhere.

Problems, Problems. by rlb71956 from central Illinois on 09/08/2003. Trim: 1999 Mercury Sable Wagon LS, Owned 3 years.
Pros: Interior is roomy. Easily haul 5 adults and 2 children with the 7-passenger arrangement.
Cons: Reliability has been VERY POOR. Transmission failed at 80,000 miles, costing me $3,000 to replace. Also have had to replace front wheel bearings, alternator, power steering pump, rear brakes and rotors, and front brakes and rotors. EGR sensor and oxygen sensor have also needed replacement. Also has a bad electrical connection some place in the driver's door that repeatedly shows the door open when it really is closed.
Overall review: Too expensive to maintain. I'll never buy another one.
