A Geat Car. by Carman1 from Palm Springs on 02/17/2002. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Remember this is a luxury touring roadster and was never classified as a sports car: I like the tight ride, yet comfortable. I like the heated seats to treat a bad back after a long ride. I like the built-in telephone system. Nice acceleration (not a corvette ZO6) so don't expect it to be. Directional stability under full throttle is good. Quality of the interior is excellent.
Cons: Seems to attract negative reviews and comments from writers who apparently are to young to own a car let alone a car of this caliber.
Overall review: Excellent! A car for the mature driver.

Mercedes 500 SL by WestRN from GreatFalls, Virginia on 11/24/2000. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Handsome on the road. A great chick car, guys look somewhat foolish, especially in white. Quick acceleration, and great responsive handling, especially on curving roads. Easy to put on hardtop, with great storage rack available.
Cons: Rear covertible window of plastic, fogs and creates difficulty with rear visiblity with top up.
Overall review: Great car, looks and feels good on the road. Wish Mercedes would use glass rear window on convertible top thereby increasing visibility, especially at night and in adverse conditions.

ONLY SKIN DEEP by A CarPoint Consumer on 11/20/2000. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Fast, Egocentric- great looking car.
Cons: EVERYTHING breaks, door locks, brakes squeak loud, knobs fall off, switches break, top leaks, top does not come down. Should I go on for a $90,000 car?
Overall review: If you want people to gawk at you, buy it. If you want to feel like a chump, buy it. If you want a car that gets good service and no problems, buy a Toyota.
