Great car by Jack on 03/10/2012. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 10 years.

Pros: Great car, fantastic performance and adequate room for two people. I love this car and have had it for near 10 years. Exterior paint is bullet proof. Very fun to drive in town and on the highway. I would reccomend to all.
Cons: Interior simulated leather paint is terrible. I wish somebody would tell me how to remove this paint (or what ever it is) besides watching it peel off. I have had couple of small issues, like the trunk lid seal and the rear view mirror auto dimming feature dripping some kind of reverted compound.
Overall review: Great car for the money. Very good gas mileage and is very dependable. I would reccomend to all looking for a sports car. You will love it. The retractable hard top is an eye turner. I will by another if this one ever wears out. lol.. I liked this car so much, I bought my wife a C230 kompressor, she loves it also.

Mercedes has out done themselves ! by Mr. Fix it on 05/14/2009. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 1 year.

Pros: The styling of the car is 2nd to none. I'm 6'4 and still fit fairly comfortably. Dis-reguard what some 5 foot 2 person says on this. The handling is very impressive, and I love the automatic traction control, it saves tires. Great seats, easy to drive. The 4 cylinder has all the power needed in this well balanced all around, head turner. Impressive economy, considering I want to punch it at every light just to hear it !! My friends may as well think it's a spaceship, the way they stare at it. It's 10 years old and everyone comments how nice it looks, and I paid less than what they paid on a new corolla. German cars really are the best sounding, performing, designed cars.
Cons: Trunk could have a little more room. Interior should have been made with non scratch/peel material. Cup holder would be better if located near emergency brake. Maybe widen the interior 4 inches.
Overall review: Overall, a fantastic car! This balance of economy/ performance is awesome. If you want speed get the bigger engine. For me, I prefer the 230. I love the Automatic ! The way it spools the engine before lauching, probably why some have tranny issues, it begs to be stomped! The car is very quiet for a convertable. I absolutely love my AMG equipped version. Overall, better than my Audi, better than my Acura, and better than my older porsche. This car has sold me on German cars forever. It sounds sooo good, feels so right. It's a dreamy car. I've owned nearly every make of car, and I am impressed. I bought this car 9 years old, and most people guess it's 5 years old, Great Paint! This car is a classic luxury machine. No the 230 isn't a V-8. But rivals many V-6 models power. It's a 4 with v6 power, and 4 cyl economy when desired, The best of both worlds !

Summer fun by Mike from New York on 08/26/2008. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 4 years.
1
Pros: Retractable hardtop, 5 speed tranny, styling, good mpg
Cons: Not much, although the auto-dimming mirrors are starting to delaminate.
Overall review: Good car to work on and customize. Replaced the factory stereo, replaced drivers seat with a Recaro bucket, facelifted the front end with more modern looking headlights, foglights, and grille. SS catback exhaust with a muffler that gives the car a throatier exhaust note.

Slick SLK by An MSN Autos Consumer on 08/18/2008. Trim: 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 3 years.

Pros: Bought mine used with 130k miles. Price was right $9k. Clean CarFax. Great gas mileage about 34mpg combined city/hwy driving. Easy to service - oil/filter change, tune up, transmission fluid/filter change, shocks, brakes, can be done by a DIY. Parts readily available from most on-line retailers. 2.3L Kompressor engine gives enough power to beat most cars on acceleration.
Cons: The interior paint used on the dash/console is peeling off. Big recall on rear brake lights burning out constantly-fixed by the dealer.
Overall review: I use to own a 450SL and a 500SL but this little SL Kompact is a blast to drive.
