SUV Supreme by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/26/2009. Trim: 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 2WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Great ride. Lots of space inside. A little bit smaller physically than newer models so fits more easily in a regular garage. About 3 inches shorter than newer suburbans and full sized GM products. Made a whole lot better than newer GM trucks. Great power for passing and driving in hilly country. Take it easy and you'll get 17 MPG on highway even at 70MPH plus cruising speeds. Bought it new in Oct 1998 and still lovin it.
Cons: Nothing - and I have owned 3 suburbans before this one and a new large pickup to compare it.
Overall review: Excellent vehicle. Great service and no problems. Just take care of it and do maintenance regularly. Paint job still great - mine is garage kept.

THE BEAST by DAVE IN COLORADO on 12/12/2008. Trim: 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 4WD, Owned 2 years.
Pros: POWER, LOOKS, COMFORT, EASY TO WORK ON
Cons: WIPER MOTORS GOING OUT (EASY FIX THOUGH), VIBRATIONS IN VEHICLE GOING OVER 70 MPH
Overall review: VERY POWERFUL EVEN PULLING TRAILERS IN MOUNTAIN AREAS, AND FOR ITS SIZE AND WEIGHT CAN GET UP TO 22 MPG (HIGHWAY)

Best family vehicle by JH frm PV on 08/10/2008. Trim: 1999 GMC Suburban 2500 4WD, Owned 9 years.
Pros: Room, features, dependability, towing, quality, 7.4L big block V8 (and everything that comes with it), 4wd, safety, acceleration, SLT trim line, pewter exterior, pretty much everything...
Cons: Gas mileage...but what do you expect in a vehicle of this caliber? and the brakes have been replaced a few times, air conditioning went out after extreme use during the hot Phoenix summers but got it fixed, but in reality, nothing major that would have steered me away from buying it
Overall review: We love our GMC Suburban 2500 SLT and plan on giving it to our son when he gets his license later this year...hate to see it go! We also own a 2008 Cadillac Escalade and a 2004 Toyota 4Runner Limited also and still can't believe how much more room this has for our family of 5. The kids love it, perfect for long trips with all the room, handles the chicago winters with no problem. We tow our boat with this and when we got it on back, it feels as if theres nothing on back. The engine is great, love the way it purs back at me...especially during acceleration! Love the 4Runner and Caddy, but this is probably the best car I've owned. We havent had many problems with it breaking so it is definetly a great long-term car to own. Also, it feels so safe especially on the highway, almost as if its a tank. And of course, with the 4x4, it handles the AZ mountains with no problem! Great truck, however, chose the caddy (got 12k off) otherwise we'd be driving the 08 Yukon XL for the next 10 years!

Best all-purpose SUV by Zachro51 from TX on 04/11/2007. Trim: 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 4WD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: Very reliable all-purpose vehicle. 5.7L engine has plenty of power. Leather seats are comfortable and have held up well. Very easy to work on for the do-it-yourself mechanics. Maintenance costs considerably less than equivalent Ford motors, especially tune-ups. Rides and handles well on-road or off-road. 3rd seat is alot more comfortable and functional than that of the '97 Expedition I previously owned and there is still plenty of room for luggage in the back with the 3rd seat in.
Cons: Brakes too spongy. Have had them checked and replaced pads, mechanics say they are fine, but still too spongy for me. Fuel mileage is only about 10-12mpg in town, and about 17mpg hwy.
Overall review: Bought used in Nov. 2004 with 76,000 miles and as of today have a little over 99,000 miles. The only real problem was with a quick connect to the heater hose that kept leaking. Replaced it and now is not a problem. I put bfg 265/75r16 at's and reflex shocks on,and it rides smooth on-road or off-road. Very little road noise even with the aggressive all-terrain tires. The 4wd buttons are not easily accessible when driving, but the 4wd has worked flawlessly. Have been many miles through mud, snow & sand, and haven't been stuck yet (knock on wood). Hands down, the best on-road, off-road family SUV on the market.

The Ultimate Family Vehicle by Mother of 4 from Arizona on 11/09/2005. Trim: 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Everything! So comfortable and I feel so safe driving it with my children. I was afraid to buy the vehicle at first because of how old it was, but I trust it more than my 2002 Ford, and it is WAY more comfortable!
Cons: It does drive like a truck. I'm used to a smaller vehicle that has a lot of get-up-and-go, so getting used to the bigness and the way it accelerates was hard to get used to.
Overall review: Overall I would recommend this vehicle to anyone! Especially those with large families like mine. You can hardly even hear the kids in the back seat fighting at all and that gives it a BIG plus!
