The 'everyone needs one' truck
by A CarPoint Consumer on 03/27/2001.
Trim: 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 SL Ext. Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
Plenty of hauling room for kids, gardening supplies, sports equipment.
Cons:
Optional 3rd door seals poorly with air leak noise in spite of replacing window several times, replacing trim. Even leaked when it went through a power car wash before seal was replaced.
Overall review:
A very versatile vehicle, stylish, powerful, utilitarian. I feel as comfortable taking my wife to a formal dinner in this vehicle as i do taking her estate sale shopping.

Not Bad - could of done better
by TruckinLady from Anchorage, AK on 03/07/2002.
Trim: 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 SL Ext. Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
It's a very sleek truck - very nice to look at! I love the third door, and the back is really roomy.
Cons:
Something wrong with the drive shaft, a loud clunking noise. I wanted to get the word out that the yoke will probably need to be replaced with a new nickle-plated yoke. I'm getting mine worked on right now. The 4-wheel drive is really loud, almost has a grinding sound to it. Some tell me they have problems with the brakes, but I've never experienced that.
Overall review:
Sexy looking truck, but I think GMC needs to work a few kinks out.

Disappointed in ABS inherent flaw
by Steve from Snellville, GA on 06/22/2004.
Trim: 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 SL Ext. Cab Short Bed 2WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros:
The overall look is great. The paint has held up and very stylish design.
Cons:
Wheel rims warp, so tires cannot be balanced causing a rough ride. The ABS went out at 78,000 miles requiring me to pull the fuse and consider if I wanted to spend over $1100. to fix or just put tape over th warning lights on the dash. Very disappointed that this is an inherrent defect and GMC will not recall.
Overall review:
Would have to consider an import, if another truck is purchased. I don't believe I would purchase another GMC.
