Pros:
Gas economy - very good do 110 miles a day to and from work -$6 to $7 in fuel. commute is 60% highway and 40% city driving.
Brakes - 45K before change required
Traction - 4wheeldrive very good in snow with general purpose tires
Soft Top - multiple way to configure soft top
Ground clearance - very good
Cons:
Room - Plenty of room for 2 passengers in front but cramped for 2 passengers in backseat.
Power - underpowered climbing grades with 4 passengers
Center of Gravity - High not good for cornering at high speeds
Overall review:
Great commuter car, economical, and fun to drive with the top down, low maintenance.

Check the OIL 1 quart for evey 2000
by RH/NJ on 03/11/2003.
Trim: 1999 Chevrolet Tracker 2-Door 4WD, Owned 4 years.

Pros:
Love the look. Fun to drive, handles well, great turning ability Geared much nicer with a 4 speed transmisson. But.....
Cons:
Roof leaks. Its hard to shift into 4 wheel drive on the fly, need to slow down to a crawl inorder to get it into gear. Does not hold trade in value.
BURNS OIL!!!!! From day 1 my Tracker has burned oil. I have to put a 1/2 to a full quart of oil in every 1500 to 2300 miles and the dealer could not do any thing about it. This is not my first Tracker with this problem, I owned a 97 Tracker and 98 Tracker, both were also oil burners.
Overall review:
This little SUV may have a some good things. Somethings you maybe able to over look like, the hard shifting into 4 wheel drive or even a leaking roof. I may love my tracker with this being my 3rd one, but unless you are going to keep a constant eye on the oil I do not recommend this vehicle.

It's a Cracker not a Tracker
by Disgusted in Kansas on 09/10/2001.
Trim: 1999 Chevrolet Tracker 4-Door 2WD, Owned 2 years.
1
Pros:
The fact that it I finally got rid of it!
Cons:
Nine trips to the shop in the first six months then I quit counting.
Terrible to drive unless there is no wind and you are on a perfectly smooth road.
No power even for a four cylinder.
19 to 21 mpg on highway with cruise set.
Front end would not stay in alignment.
Rattles and shakes.
Serious engine vibration (gm said "operating as designed") You could see the headrests shake sitting at an idle.
Interior fell apart.
Exterior trim fell off.
Overall review:
I wouldn't have another one if it was free.

Drive at Your Own Risk
by A CarPoint Consumer on 05/17/2001.
Trim: 1999 Chevrolet Tracker 2-Door 2WD, Owned 2 years.
1
Pros:
convertable
good on gas
seat goes down for big back storage
Cons:
breaks lock up and I slide all the time, rain or shine
Plastic interior damages easy
clutch is off and won't allow the car to start unless the clutch is in the right position...no one can start it when I Valet park!
Overall review:
Like the look and the ability to take the top off with ease. It's good for transporting sports equipment or dogs. The problems it has are very scary...the breaks are a big deal and they have not been reliable from the beginning.

Not the best but not the worst.
by Albert from Las Vegas,NM on 04/23/2012.
Trim: 1999 Chevrolet Tracker 4-Door 2WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Good gas mileage ,back swing open door ,compact size. Five passenger . Five speed overdrive. Good power .
Cons:
Hessitates to start. Standard tranmission wont shift into 3rd gear sometimes. Outside plastic moldings comes unglued. Motor trembles when idleing sometimes.
Overall review:
Not the best truck but it is a good running truck . Has speed and has some parts like the Suzuki . Pretty good gas mileage.
Just purchased as a used vehicle . So far I have had no major problems. Just the transmission wont shift into 3rd gear (Manual Trans.) sometimes and I have to shift from 2nd gear to 4th gear to avoid damage to the tranmission. Motor trembles when idleing.
But other than that it performs quite well. On a scale of 1 thru 10 ,10 being the best. I rate this vehicle at 8 . Not bad.
