Funnest Car I've Ever Driven
by Bruce from Los Angeles on 01/25/2012.
Trim: 2000 BMW M Roadster, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros:
Very good torque in any gear, although 1st gear is a tad soft. Car pulls like a train from 3800 rpm and up. Great handling on the twisties, but be careful on the throttle; with all of that torque when the back-end breaks loose it does it pretty quickly.
The styling on this car is superb. It's quite retro-looking, reminding me of a classic British roadster. Very high quality two tone leather interior, cool analog VDO gauges showing engine temperature, time, battery power, and oil temperature. Very roomy for a two-seater. The bulging fenders allow huge rubber (245 in the rear, 235 in the front) to provide tenacious grip in the corners.
Cons:
The shocks need to be replaced at around 70k miles.
These cars have issues with the sub-frame cracking and the welds.
You can really push the car through tight curves, but it feels a bit nervous and twitchy.
Overall review:
I bought this car at 11 years old and with 83k miles on it and it runs like a top.
Even in L.A. people turn their heads to check out the car when I drive by. At it's "advanced" age it is still a serious sports car that will throw you back in your seat and freak your friends out when you rip it through the turns.
The cars were made from 1998 through 2002 and less than 11k were produced for and sold in the U.S. market, so these cars are rare and will probably be considered collectible in the future.

THE SPORTSCAR You'll Never Look Back
by John from Pittsburgh on 07/24/2009.
Trim: 2000 BMW M Roadster, Owned 5 years.
1
Pros:
Great accelleration, great low end torque (you'll be fine in almost any gear), great engine sounds, lots of compliments on the car (guys find it manly; chicks find it "cute"), handles like a high power go cart on rails (really unbelievable), smooth handling to top speed well over 130 mph, great headlights, gorgeous two tone leather, elegant simple controls
Cons:
Goes from 60 to 130 mph much too easily (one could get in trouble), seat could go back just a little further or recline just a little more, useless in snow, my golf driver won't fit in the trunk (but the rest of the clubs in the bag will)
Overall review:
The best little sports rocket you may ever drive. I've never been a car guy, but I love this car. I love this car. I have 115,000 miles on it and it really is all that. Just drove it from Pittsburgh to Kalamazoo, to Minneapolis, to Iowa, to Indiana, and back to Pittsburgh in 6 days. It was great.

The ultimate affordable 2 seater
by Mike from Virgnia on 12/13/2007.
Trim: 2000 BMW M Roadster, Owned 4 years.

Pros:
Complete joy to drive. Fast, supremely capable, and confidence inspiring....almost too much. The engine, gearbox and exhaust are incredible and I have never had so much fun in any car I have ever owned. More room inside than I thought…I am 6’3”. Traction control works very well as I discovered on my first road drive after purchase. Does not even compare to an S200, Miata or other convertibles in those lower price ranges. This is an all around complete fun car.
Cons:
Trunk is a little small, but that is the price you pay for the performance enhancing exhaust system in the car.
Overall review:
Don't ever sell. You are going to miss it terribly.
