Money, money, money, money oh and more money by Jimbo on 03/14/2010. Trim: 1999 Audi A6 Quattro, Owned 8 years.
Pros: heated seats, mirrors and steering wheel are nice in the cold, handles well in snow, interior is aesthetically appealing
Cons: premium gas, 16-24 mpg, these cars have specific fluids to maintaincan only be purchased at audi, expensive repairs, timing belt- $1800, water pump-$1200, transmission-$4000,they are notorious for leaking oil and burning it so it will stink in the car, notorious power lock problems that get stuck(some cars have a feature that if the unlock gets stuck it will roll down all the windows at random even when the car is parked, many are equipped with a brake system that is supposed to vibrate and remove water from the braking system and they fail frequently -$1200 to fix the abs module, very squeeky and rattley interior, hard on tires. Overall is way to expensive to repair and pretty unreliable.
Overall review: Do not buy a used audi!!

Poor Reliability by Dave on 04/01/2009. Trim: 1999 Audi A6 Quattro, Owned 7 years.
Pros: Extremely nice to drive. Goes straight down the road, no vibration or pull in the steering wheel. Seats are very comfortable. Accelerates nicely. Heated seats front and rear. Styling has stayed up to date.
Cons: Reliability is a major problem. Although the car runs great when everything is working, it is constantly in the shop. Upper control arms, lower control arms, cv boots, cam seals, air bag module (never wrecked), axle seals front and rear, electrical components, head light assemblies, cup holder malfunctions. Just when you think nothing else can go wrong, guess what?
Overall review: Don't buy one unless you have a good warranty.

Beauty and a Beast by Nolonger a fan of Audi in the NW on 09/26/2008. Trim: 1999 Audi A6 Quattro, Owned 6 years.
Pros: We loved the car for it's luxury. It just feels "quality" the moment you step inside. The interior is so well thought out- from the door pockets to the solar sunroof- and the material's are excellent (except the cupholders). Ours has all the possible options, automatic shades in the back and windows, heated seats that go from your neck to your knees and get so HOT even the stiffest necks melt. The stereo is the best I have ever heard in a car and I have tried many. It's a pleasure to drive on long trips, especially.
Cons: Audi service charges are unbelievable. And pretty much no one else can service these cars now, besides Audi. You will find yourself shelling out $300 to $1500 routinely. We put about $5000 into it in 18 months with minor issues and normal maintanence (90k mile service is over $2000. headlight bulb $450, another battery (3 in 5 years), window guides, vacuum sensors, etc.) 2 weeks after getting that maintenance and check up ("car in great condition", they said before I would buy the latest maintenance) we get it back and the alternator and transmission have failed. It has under 100k and is an automatic.
Overall review: The car is gorgeous and actually really quiet, comfortable and luxurious. Although it's not fast (the 2.7t is, the others are not) and brakes a little weak (it weighs almost 2 tons) it hugs the road and corners well. It's great in snow and rain. and the gas mileage is better than you would think. But it costs a LOT of money to keep one of these running. Ask about Audi shop prices before buying. I fyou are buying used and not an Audi mechanic, you probably cant afford it.
