Europe got it right by Lefty from Burlington on 07/22/2010. Trim: 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Fast car and the turbo works amazing in it and very safe to drive.
Cons: Bit expensive to fix. Put $1200 in for repairs last time I took it in, but it's worth it in the end.
Overall review: This car is amzing in almost all aspects. If you can get one I would buy it before getting any american made car.

My 1996 Volvo 850 =) by Koffi N. on 10/08/2008. Trim: 1996 Volvo 850 Base, Owned 1 year.
Pros: very nice car! some people say the performance is lacking, but it's really not that bad. i have the 5speed manual transmission, and i love it. the sound system is great, seats are real comfortable, and i love that wonderful exhast note when you first start it up in the morning.!
Cons: i think the gas mileage could be a little bit better..especially in this day and time. it's a bit heavy when manueverig in city traffic, a/c can be a pain on really hot days, and thats just about it.
Overall review: overall this car is wonderful! and safe.would make a great first car for a teenager, not 2 fast and not 2 slow, just right. great amount of rear legroom also. but this thing is a gasaholic at times.

Fun, comfortable car. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/17/2007. Trim: 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Comfortable, especially in cold weather. The turbocharged 5-cylinder engine drives the car very nicely. This is one of the few boxy cars that looks good.
Cons: The ride is a little harsh thanks to the high-speed tires.
Overall review: 11-years-old and still no rust. The one problem the car has had during the two years that I owned it was the failure of the fuel pump, which is not an awful surprise for a decade old car.

Enduring and expensive by An MSN Autos Consumer on 12/13/2006. Trim: 1996 Volvo 850 Base, Owned 1 year.
Pros: The 1996 Volvo 850 is stable under tough conditions like torrid rain and snowfall. The seating is comfortable and it has great traction. It endures the extreme heat and cold temperatures very well.
Cons: Very expensive to repair. Average labor in Seattle is 70.00 per hr
Overall review: Good solid car but expensive to maintain as it gets older due to labor and parts specific to manufacturer. The review is dead on for the most common problems found in this 1996 model.
