great little car by An MSN Autos Consumer on 08/09/2004. Trim: 1997 Volkswagen Cabrio Highline, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros: 5 sp man trans and clutch very smooth, even after 60,000 miles. Manual top leak and trouble-free. 4 seat convertible that 4 people can actually use!
Cons: 2.0 8v 4 cyl 113 hp, is not quite enough punch. Interior design behind other 1997 models
Overall review: Great to drive, fun little car. Upgraded the 14

Gold beginning to tarnish by Sucker on 05/25/2004. Trim: 1997 Volkswagen Cabrio Base, Owned 4 years.

Pros: Its fun to drive with the top down. Good sight lines. Controls and gauges are easily accessible and comprehendable. Holds its value well. Maneuvers in tight traffic like you wouldn't believe.
Cons: Cup holders can only hold small drinks, otherwise it could easily tip over while driving (believe me!) Also, the A/C can be sketchy and it did leak on the passenger side and is now not working. The side door bumpers began to come off. Apparently they're taped on. Must have window up when raining, otherwise it will leak inside badly.
Overall review: This is a fun car to drive but it does have its drawbacks which I believe are minor design flaws. It currently needs maintenance which could irritate someone who doesn't love the car. I love the car, however, the honeymoon is about over.

Luvable Little Convertible by Ivette on 01/30/2004. Trim: 1997 Volkswagen Cabrio Base, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros: I love the comfort. Very nice to drive, definitely a chic car, you get a lot of attention, just for driving a convertible. When you drive it, it feels like you're in complete control because of the size of it. Preferrably if you're a petite woman. It's not really a guy car.
Cons: Service on this car and repairs could be a little more than if you buy American or Japanese, but once fixed it's pretty smooth.
Overall review: I love it. It's a great little convertible. You will get very attached to it. I know I did.
