My VW Golf by Sarah on 02/08/2011. Trim: 1995 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Handling is great. Acceleration is fast and impressive (speaking for the 5 speed). Looks really nice compared to others in this category, like Civic. Back seats are roomy. Trunk is pretty big. I have successfully taken four people and all our things camping in this car. I usually get just under 600 kilometers to a tank, in the city, which is pretty good.
Cons: Cup holders are weird. They don't allow clearance for anything much taller than a pop can or disposable coffee cup...so forget fountain drinks. The driver's seat is uncomfortable for long drives, not sure why, could just be that something's broken in there.
Overall review: Love this car. I have to admit, I DON'T take good care of my stuff. Including my car. But I have driven her nearly every day for five years, and she's still reliable as ever. Oil changes and tune-ups aside, I've only ever had to get new tires and brakes, which will happen to any car, and most recently, my head gasket is having issues. But, for a older car, I'd say she's been great. She's never left me stranded. I definitely would recommend this car. Someday I hope to buy another VW.

VR6 GTI is a beast by socalR6 on 11/23/2004. Trim: 1995 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Owned 1 year.
Pros: My third GTi and first VR6. I picked up used with all the aftermarket parts you could think of. What a rocket. Bilstien coilovers, 17in. BBS wheels and Falken ziex 512's tires transform this unassuming box into a racecar.
Cons: Coilpack, window regulators, thermostat housing, fan motor all needed replacement. But I knew this before hand. I love my GTI!
Overall review: for the money, hands down the winner compared to a honda civic, prelude or anything Toyota makes

A Great Pocket Rocket by Bryan from Milwaukee on 07/25/2004. Trim: 1995 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Owned 9 years.
Pros: An absolute blast to drive - especially on the highway. The VR6 has been a very durable motor. I've owned this car since is what new and I just turned 175000 miles. It still goes as good as it did a few years ago. Very few mechanical problems with the engine outside of normal wear and tear (belts and a water pump). If you do need to replace something, parts are readily available from many sources and relatively inexpensive for most things. Seats are comfortable for long trips. I have made more than a few 1000+ mile trips in this car with no problems.
Cons: Interior quality could be better in some areas, namely the door panels. A few rattles have developed over the years, but I guess at 175K any car will have them. 3 brake calipers seized up - common problem that has since been resolved. Shift linkage leaves alot to be desired, but you get used to it.
Overall review: If you're looking for a cheap, fun, and reliable car this is it. It's not a BMW or Audi in terms of quality, but it's the ultimate sleeper - faster than most cars on the road.

worth every penny by Happie on 10/08/2003. Trim: 1995 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Owned 8 years.
Pros: I love this car. Very few problems since I bought it new 11 years ago. Just the regular stuff like brakes and clutch. Just replaced the exhaust this year. Not a lot of money for maintenance.
Cons: (No data provided)
Overall review: Worth every penny
