Caution: Fragile when driven!
by Steve from Las Vegas, NV on 06/15/2002.
Trim: 1991 Volkswagen Golf 16V, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
Simple, operational and quite functional on a day-to-day basis! Decent cargo space. Nice seats(stock Racaro's). Nice tight transmission(race-like feel and responce). Good handling!
Cons:
GERMAN PLASTIC AND RUBBER!!!! <---Need I say more? Very high-maintinence/high-performance car. No-low end torque with the A/C on. No head room for someone over 6'0. Something is ALWAYS breaking. Over $1600.00 invested(in 4 months) just to keep the car running and operational. Over 800+ receipts for replacement parts since 1991. Too many repairs ya think?
Overall review:
Very good bullet-proof car. But it may take a few months and a few runs to the coin jar to keep it running. BAD GERMAN PLASTIC AND RUBBER!!! Personally I dont want to spend every weekend fixing the 4 dozen problems just to keep it "stock". MY car seems to be a money pit

Golfski
by AC from MKE on 11/18/2009.
Trim: 1991 Volkswagen Golf GL 2-Door hatchback, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
The parts for this car are super cheap and everything is relatively easy to repair- which is a plus because it needs a lot. With 185k miles and 18 years old it's still running. People seem to either love these cars or hate them. I love em!
Cons:
I don't like that there are no cup holders. It's old so it doesn't have ABS, Powerlocks, Airbags, or good seatbelts. Also, the starter on the auto transmission is the biggest pain to be repaired.
Overall review:
Great little car. Be prepared to do repairs, often.

by David Verellen on 11/29/2006.
Trim: 1991 Volkswagen Golf GL 4-Door hatchback, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
54 MPG, great handling, Comfortable, and affordable.
Cons:
Breaks went at about 77k miles, but had been sitting for 6 monthes before I bought it, Barrings were bad and had to fix (that helped with gas milage) and ac didn't work but what do you excpect from an old car. not a stylish car.
Overall review:
It was old but it had young miles I got it at 75k and it ended in an accident with minimal damage at 88k and could have ran for 300k more by the way she ran... great car I recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable, cheap and fun little car.... expecialy those who are in college...like me
