2006 Avalon
by Matt from KC on 05/12/2010.
Trim: 1998 Toyota Avalon XL, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
I purchased this car in 2009 with 83k miles on it. Second owner and it currently has 95k miles. The car has plenty of power, however it does accelerate slowly up inclines. Transmission shifts very smoothly. Interior is expansive and provides plenty of leg room. No repairs so far, this car does have a timing belt which I plan on changing at 100k.
Cons:
The downside to this car is the handling, its to soft. After passing over a large dip the car bounces. I have considered changing the struts but I am not sure this will fix it. Certain car seats do not fit into the backseat very well because of the slope and shape of the seat cushion. The radio reception is relatively weak.
Overall review:
Overall, I like the Avalon and would recommend it to others. Believe it or not I like my 2006 Corolla better - 40 mpg, good handling, good power/weight ratio, no repairs (timing chain doesn't need replaced)

Overall review:
Our Av has a shade over 100K miles. It has never had a mechanical or electrical issue of any kind. Only thing inferior were OEM Bridgestone tires that wore through at under 30K miles. Replaced with Michelin Xs at that time and those were just replaced within the last four months with about 70 K miles on them. Last vehicle inspection asserted the original brakes have about 90% rear pad and 50% front pads left. Amazing. This car has consistently delivered around 30 mpg on the highway at 70+ mph steady rate, and around 24 mpg all around. It is quite, smooth, and has a turbine like quality known in the early Toyota V-6. I only wish the new ones were as classy and handsome as these. FYI, this car is now our son's primary ride - it took an MB E class to do better.
