This truck is the best!! by Jessica from Round Lake on 01/10/2010. Trim: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: I can get in it and go.. There is over 230,000 miles on it and we have had no problems with it. I am comfortable to drive it far distances and all 6 of my kids love going off roading in it. Great pulling power.
Cons: I found out after the roof leaked that there were drains in the moonroof which need to be cleaned out regularly. It would be nice to have the ability to easily clean the drain instead of jamming the wire down there and playing with it.
Overall review: With regular maintenance this truck will last forever! I love it and will keep on driving it until it is no longer fixable. 230,000 miles and 13 years later I still drive it every day. It is also excellent for pulling people out of snow covered ditches. My husband bought this but I am the one who drives it and is rough on it..

"It's A Tank" by Shelly from Minnesota on 03/29/2010. Trim: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned 9 years.
Pros: Dependable, sturdy, tough and appearance.
Cons: Gas Mileage
Overall review: This truck has always been dependable for me. I bought it used in 2001 and have not had a problem. My kids thought it wasn't very roomy especially when going on out of town trips. I would buy another one except the gas mileage is not very good. I am seriously looking at the newer 4Runner because they get a little better mileage. This is a great truck. You can't seriously live in Minnesota and not have a truck!

Series 80 Land Cruiser. Quite possibly the finest vehicle on the planet. by Guerrillabot from Meridian on 07/25/2007. Trim: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Features such as solid F/R axles for strength, inline pattern motor for longevity, and optional F/R selectable locking differentials stuffed with 4.55 gears for capability. It is equipped with enough luxury to keep the softies happy, but compromises nothing in toughness. The brake master cylinder has two chambers and two independent systems. If one side is compromised, you still have half your brakes! It's starter is the old brush/contact style. It will begin to fail intermittently over time as it wears, rather than just failing for good, giving you ample warning so you're not left stranded. Because really, who wants to die in the middle of the desert? Thanks Toyota!
Cons: It has only one small, nearly useless cup-holder. But c'mon, who buys one of these for the cup-holders? It's a gas hog. 13/15 respectively. If you can't afford the gas, you can't afford a Land Cruiser. The engine is a bit underpowered for decisive merging and passing, but what it lacks in horsepower it more than makes up for in torque. This is a truck, not a sports car. Get over it. The factory stereo is the worst I've ever heard. Terrible.
Overall review: In my opinion, this truck is the penultimate SUV. There are certainly more expensive, higher-tech choices out there, but none offer anything markedly superior to the 80 series Land Cruiser of a decade ago. Unlike Jeep and Rover, it is built to a military level of toughness and reliability. It is put together without regard to cost, but rather dependability, strength, and longevity. Driving an Escalade or Land Rover says you have money. Driving a Toyota Land Cruiser says you have brains. Not to mention, this is one great looking truck.

40th Anniversary Clunker by Scott Lansdale, PA on 02/28/2003. Trim: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: It looks great.
Cons: Not powerful enough. V6 is much too small for this truck. Too sluggish. Also we have had many problems mechanically with it. Starter solenoid, head gasket blown after 80K, cracked cyclinder, thermostat. Can't wait to get rid of this!!!!!!
Overall review: For a 40th Anniversary Edition this is junk. Don't buy this truck!!!!!
