This truck rocks! by Rainy in Virginia on 09/29/2011. Trim: 1997 Toyota 4Runner 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: I have driven this vehicle for years. I have 192K miles on it and it's still running like a champ. I'll probably drive it until the doors fall off. Runs great, never breaks down and is the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. Very comfortable, with plenty of storage room behind the back seat for long trips.
Cons: The cup holder design is pretty ridiculous. It pulls out from the dash over the console and radio so you get drips from your drinks onto the console, plus the holder is directly in front of the air vent so if you're drinking coffee in the summer with the AC on, it cools it down quickly, as well as the reverse. If you put a cold soda in the holder during the winter, the heater will warm it up nicely! ? That part is annoying. Changing the oil at home is a pain. You have to access the oil filter by going over the drivers front tire unless you remove the protective cowling under the car...makes it very difficult if you are a do-it-yourself person.
Overall review: All things considered, this is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I have no plans to sell it anytime soon. I've looked at the newer models and I just don't like the body styles as much as this one.

A Blue-Ribbon Winner! by ND on 01/17/2013. Trim: 1997 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: This is the most dependable vehicle I have owned in a half century of driving. Purchased used in '98 with 8,000 on the odometer, the truck currently has over 390,000 miles on it. It's a keeper!
Overall review: A solid 10.

A Great SUV by Suncoast from SW Florida on 01/29/2005. Trim: 1997 Toyota 4Runner 4WD, Owned 8 years.
Pros: Absolute reliability, lots of space for hauling people (4-5) and stuff, time-honored styling, and high road clearance.
Cons: Nothing really, except the ride is a bit truck-like,the ABS brakes grab a little sometime, and the cup holder in 1997 was in an inconvenient spot.
Overall review: Purchased it new in 1997 and it is one of the best units I have ever owned. The reliability is bullet proof -- no repairs have been needed so far at 67,000 miles. It has plenty of power, the interior is comfortable, the fit and finish is first class, and it looks attractive. The automatic transmission works like a charm, though the manual 4-wheel drive controls are a bit bulky. Drive one and you will like it. A great SUV.

4 Runner - Great All Around Car by Millard West Band Rules - Omaha, NE on 06/30/2003. Trim: 1997 Toyota 4Runner 2WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great visability, outstanding legroom for everyone, comfortable seats. Love the fact the back windows, not to mention the tailgate windows go ALL THE WAY DOWN into the frame.
Cons: Difficult entering/exiting from rear seats. Bouncy ride on the highway, difficult to control over 70mph. Hate the accessory plugs beening dead when the car is off.
Overall review: Bought it used for my son, great car for a short commuter. This is the 3rd Toyota in the driveway, purged all Fords out ( 2 for lousy quality - 1 was totalled). Never go back to a Big 3 Car Company again.
