Crash Survivor (Grateful Owner)
by Austin Healey from Lakeport on 03/24/2011.
Trim: 1996 Toyota Tacoma V6 Xtracab 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
4
Pros:
I survived a serious crash in my 1st '96 Tacoma; walked away after it was totaled at highway speed by an errant oncoming car. A month later I bought my 2nd '96 Tacoma, and have driven it 148,000 trouble-free miles. I had the timing belt changed at 75,000 miles as per recommendation by the manual; otherwise I change the oil regularly and grease the drive train zerk fittings annually. No other repairs have been needed. It's comfortable, but surely not a sports car - but I don't expect it to handle like one. It's great in mud & snow. Totally reliable.
Cons:
Seat belts fail to retract when unfastened. Cup holder is right over the heater controls and the radio/cassette player.
Overall review:
Best truck I've ever owned. If it ever breaks I'll buy another Toyota Tacoma!

Too quirky

Trim: 1996 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros:
It looks nice and goes good in the snow.
Cons:
On What other vehicle does it cost $250 to change a headlight? To change a headlight on this truck the bumper must be removed as well as the grill ! When you get of this truck the seat belt hangs up and you have assist it to get it to retract, which is real fun in the rain! The cup holder is right in front of the climate controls, so you must handle your hot or cold cup to change the controls.
Overall review:
Would not buy again.

Pros:
Toyota quality. Rugged 4x4 components not found in others, Manual locking hubs. Great stock ground clearance...go park next to a chevy s-10 and you will see.... Eats up the Colorado snow. I have the 2.7 liter engine and the power is adequate. Gas milage is good.Keep in mind this 2.7 liter 4 cylinder has more power and better m.p.g. than previous 3.0 liter v6 in trucks and 4 runners pre 1995! Factory 4:10 gears has monster torque for a little truck
Cons:
Not recommended for towing more than 2,000 lbs..but I have montains here,,,may be better at sea level.
Overall review:
Pay the extra money for Toyota quality and you will be rewarded. Trust me. I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

More Dependable..Less Spendable
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 04/04/2009.
Trim: 1996 Toyota Tacoma Xtracab 2WD, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros:
holds up well in all kinds of driving..country roads, potholes etc..lots of wear and tear put on this little truck of mine, and still running..just keep it generally maintained with proper tune-ups and oil changes, and regular maintenance..So far I have put about 230,000 HARD miles on it..
Cons:
maybe not quite as roomy as i wish it was.. and doesn't have a whole lot or get up and go, but maybe it's tired like me lol... but what get up and go it does have is DEPENDABLE
Overall review:
I am pleased with the overall dependability of this vehicle, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another just like it..Well worth every penny I paid for it and I am pleased to know that even with 13 yrs of hard miles on it, it has still held it's value..
