Great relaible and a conversation starter by Steve of Mercer Island on 07/07/2008. Trim: 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: This vehicle is reliable, tough, practical, roomy and still causes people to ask me if I will sell it. While it gets poor mileage (12 in town and 17 on the road) its durability creates a better carbon footprint than buying something new.
Cons: I wish it had airbags and anti lock brakes. In addition, its gutless, although that made it the perfect vehicle for teenage drivers.
Overall review: I bought mine in the spring of 1990, it had 6000 miles on it. Now over eighteen years and 144K later, I've replaced oil, tires, brakes, a gas tank (on warranty), three batteries, one alternator and a starter. The air conditioner has been recharged and is a little tired. The body has zero rust. All in all, not a bad record. Lord willing and no world flood, I plan on driving it for a long time.

The Ultimate Truck! by Siege the transplant from Alaska on 11/12/2005. Trim: 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: It isn't the prettiest truck on the road but it definitley has character! With decades of off-road experience this SUV is by far the undisputed leader in its class! A legend world-wide! When traveling across country on a minimal budget it can be your best friend! I drove the AlCan Highway this past summer on my way to Arizona and loved every minute I spent in my TLC! She mastered the road the entire way! You proud TLC owners know what I'm talking about! With stock tires I can deflate and tool around in the desert with minimal worry! Now it's time to say that I have never been stuck and would probably be more inclined to help out the Jeep pilot I may encounter!
Cons: She is seriously under powered but the engine is as reliable as they come. 150,000 miles down the trail and the "Straight 6" keeps chugging along! And more so than most SUV's and contrary to the usual economy of Japanese vehicles she is "Thirsty"! Good news though! If you are a true TLC enthusiast and would rather chew your own arm off than part with your old lady you can do an engine swap for a newer Vortech V-8! This will really beef up your performance and help your fuel economy a little too! So all you prospective TLC pilots and the ones all ready on the trail keep truckin'!
Overall review: This truck rocks the socks off anything out there! She is the "Legend" of any road! You gotta get and hold a TLC!

Best by far by Michael, Los Angeles on 02/11/2002. Trim: 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Far and away the best SUV I've ever driven, although it doesn't have a powerful-enough engine. My wife bought the latest Mercedez ML500 SUV (about $55K), but I like the TLC better. The last year of the classic box style. Instead of buying another new one, I repainted (not needed, by the way -- paint lasts!) and changed to leather seats (not available when I bought it 10 years ago). Now has 92K miles and has needed absolutely NO mechanical repairs! Outstanding off-road.
Cons: 150 HP engine will not take steep hills without losing speed. No factory cruise control.
Overall review: Huge cargo space, fairly luxurious interior, plenty of headroom, classic styling, mechanically reliable (an understatement).
