zippy & reliable by dinodoc from Marysville on 06/09/2007. Trim: 1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon Outback Sport, Owned 9 years.
1
Pros: Relatively zippy & easy to handle. Lots of cargo room w/the rear seats down. Over 120,000 miles (since I bought it brand new in '98) & no major problems.
Cons: Lost at least one hubcap each year...it was kind of weird.
Overall review: This was my first Subaru & I have been very impressed. It will be a hard sell to put me in any other make of car.

Love My Scooby by Phil (Colorado) on 04/11/2007. Trim: 1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon Outback Sport, Owned 1 year.

Pros: Great Styling. I bought it with 100k and I am almost to 120K. Timing belt was reasonable due to the water pump not being needed at the same time. Lots of room in the back when the seat is folded flat. Enough for a smaller person to sleep in comfortably (im 5'-7"). Gets good gas milege (23 city, 27 freeway avg). easy to work on. Oil Filter is right next to the drain plug so no reaching or spilling all over the engine. I dont have to jack the car up to change it either. Fuel Filter, Transmission and differential fluid are also easy to change. I had a 2000 civic and the ride in this vehicle is much much better! Handles very well! Paint if very nice and really shiny when I wash/wax it.
Cons: There are a few small things that I dislike about this car. Every car will have some... The clear coat on the hood scoop is chipping off. Its noisy at high speed. The rear tailight covers wont stay on. The factory roof rack is arc'd so my bikes are at an angle when mounted. Engine lacks power in the mountains, but for a 4 cyl 4wheel drive its expected. Seats have no lumbar support. Have to shut doors harder than normal so they latch. Air Bag light came on around 113k. Transmission shifts hard into gear sometimes. This was the same on my civic, might be common with automatic transmissions. When I floor it, it doesnt give me the gear I want sometimes.
Overall review: I would definatley buy a subaru again. I love this car. There are some small things wrong with it that most people could live with. I would probably go with a manual next time.

Lemonade? by Gail on 08/12/2003. Trim: 1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon Outback Sport, Owned 6 years.
1
Pros: This vehicle handles great and is wonderful on wet slippery roads. I enjoy driving it and have confidence in handling any situation. This car was purchased new.
Cons: The clutch went at 56,000 miles and I have driven standard my whole life (30 yrs.) The front axial has been replaced once and the rear axial twice. The sensor panel has been totally replace after many individual sensors were done. In 6 months I invested $3,500 in repairs. At this point the dealer was not charging for labor.
Overall review: I will probably drive it until this car goes to car heaven, but would not purchase another Subaru.
