individualistic conservative reliable by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/16/2012. Trim: 1996 Subaru Legacy GT, Owned 1 year.
Pros: GT is sporty with 155 hp Japanese engineering all wheel drive auto-trans conservative styling in a sports sedan
Cons: interior design looks like a microwave control panel, hard to see what you are pushing at night. cup holder in horrible place. interior is sort of overbuilt.
Overall review: very fun to drive, easy and smooth acceleration and shifting. extremely reliable with 188k miles head gaskets may be a problem after 100k interior accessories plentiful but need serious re-design but its an old car!

Great Snow Commuter Vehicle by Donken from Rexburg on 03/29/2010. Trim: 1996 Subaru Legacy L, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Does well in the snow of Idaho. Fairly smooth ride for how old it is. I bought it at 136,000 and now I have 181,000 miles on it and it still runs like a champ, I have just changed the fluids and put a new timing belt and spark plugs and minor tune up stuff like that but I have never had anything unusual go out on it. It has gotten me through a lot of road trips. Great gas mileage for an AWD vehicle.
Cons: Noisy on highways because their is no bar around the windows.
Overall review: I bought it from a dealership for really cheap after they got it at an auction, I have loved this car and plan to drive it til it dies. It has been a great value car to get me to and home from work in summer and winter. I have never put snow tires on it and have never ran off the road in the worst of storms, this is really a great little car.

Subaru by Kevin from Lowell, IN on 02/21/2008. Trim: 1996 Subaru Legacy L AWD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: The AWD makes the car feel and handle like a truck. It has capabilities of getting out of ditches and mud.
Cons: The gas mileage isn't great for a 2.2 liter car, but that is because of the AWD.
Overall review: This vehicle is very reliable, however the parts and labor to fix the car when something goes wrong can be very expensive. It has a great resale value, though, and the gas mileage is tolerable.

Tube'a Glue by 'Cuse Driver on 09/10/2006. Trim: 1996 Subaru Legacy L AWD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: I like the safety features and the versatility of this vehicle.
Cons: It's not the most fuel-efficient vehicle around and that has to do with the full time 4wd.
Overall review: Solid, quality vehicle

AWD=heaven by orson, NY on 08/01/2004. Trim: 1996 Subaru Legacy GT, Owned 8 years.
Pros: I liked the sport suspention alot, I could really throw the car into a bend and it would track like it was on rails in any weather. Acceleration was decent, kept up with the aggressive traffic in the NY area just fine. Got through several blizzards no problem-love AWD!
Cons: Interior was ok-just a little too plastic looking. Paint for some reason was hard to compound out little pebble dings. Getting some corrosion on aluminum wheels. A few rusty brackets in the engine compartment-easily fixed with rustoleum and a small paint brush.
Overall review: The car has been very trouble free-only an O2 sensor, and valve cover gaskets in over 70,000 mi. Too bad Subaru did not put in a moon roof as standard or optional equipment-however my dealer (largest in New England) was retrofitting them with Subaru supplied moon roofs and was glad they did. Brakes excellent, 52,000 rear and 62,000 front with good stopping power once you get used to the slight travel on the brake pedal. Liked this so much I bought another Subaru in 2001.
