great design bad engineering by red on 11/18/2003. Trim: 1994 Subaru SVX LS 2WD, Owned 7 years.
1
Pros: great styling and extremely refined car that is also great in the snow.
Cons: the most unreliable car i've ever owned.replaced transmision at 50k,wheel bearings, brakes, plug wires are expensive and constantly needing replacement.just spent $2500 at 120k and a week later the steering box and pump, another $2000 job.subaru tried to get away with legacy components that dont hold up in a car this heavy and powerful.also interior components constantly falling apart and screws coming out.both lock broke anoter $250 job.eats tires every 25-30k.
Overall review: nice design and engine.would have been a great car if it was better engineered.a $30,000 car should not fall apart at 120k.

SVXTRAORDINARY by Ice man from Oceanside CA on 09/08/2002. Trim: 1994 Subaru SVX LSi AWD, Owned 4 years.

Pros: I like everything about it! I like its smooth handling, its hard cornering and comfortable interior. Its almost like you are sitting in a cockpit of a jetfighter with no wings.
Cons: I dislike the cost of tune-ups and the transmission sucks. All repairs are too expensive. You almost have to be rich to drive this car, but most definately worth it.
Overall review: Overall I still love my SVX. I've had a Mustang 5.0, a Chrysler Laser Turbo, a Nissan 300ZX and many others. This car far outperforms all of the above and then some.

Amazing Rare Car by An MSN Autos Consumer on 08/20/2012. Trim: 1994 Subaru SVX L 2WD coupe, Owned more than 10 years.
Useful?
Pros: Amazing looks and always turns heads! Always a fun to answer the "What is it?" Question. Driving it to school is always great making fellow high school students jealous. Ride quality is great and front seats are sooooo comfortable. Rear seats... best for the smallest of passengers, but can make do with it tho.
Cons: Parts are becoming a little more difficult to find, so the prices are going up, but is well worth it! Oh and well unfortunately Premium gas.......
Overall review: Amazing Car! Always turns heads and you will always have a smile on your face as you drive it!

A Well Kept Secret Whose Time May Be Comming Around Again(say.Clean Diesel) by West Virginia SVX Pilot on 09/15/2008. Trim: 1994 Subaru SVX LSi AWD, Owned 4 years.
Useful?
Pros: I have owned two of these cars for several years. I drive on rural two lane roads and on interstates daily. I have never found a car that delivers such balanced preformance on Any road surface than the SVX. The car is loaded with features that enhance the driving experience. Today, this car would probably sell for over $55000. I bought mine for less that $3000 and have had no repair issues. I have gotton 21 to 28 MPG every tank, on Regular grade unleaded..Love those computer controlled knock sensors!
Cons: I live in a very rural part of West Virginia. I have found that the 5.5 inch ground clearance is too low for a lot of the roads that I drive on every day. Be that as it may, it is not a true fault of the car..it is just an issue that must be faced if I am to get my car to an Interstate, where the car is meant to be driven.
Overall review: Overall, I would not and have not looked at any other car for my driving uses since I bought my first SVX. I also own a Mazda pick up truck, for hauling purposes. The SVX is driven all over the USA with complete confidence. My partner calls it her private magic carpet hover craft. It is very quiet(.29 drag cooeficent), has ample preformance, is reliable, and styled and equipped the way I want my car to be. Maybe it is time for Fuji Heavy Industries to do a diesel version of it for the American buyer.

Good, the bad, and the beautiful by Luhiss from Philipstown, NY on 05/21/2004. Trim: 1994 Subaru SVX LS 2WD, Owned 5 years.
Useful?
Pros: SVX Good Stuff: Overall the car has been reliable. It is fun to drive, Love its looks. Ahead of its time. Mine had nearly 100,000 miles and didnt burn a drop of oil. No one knows what they are, so they are easy to acquire inexpensively. Mileage = 17-23Mpg Honestly, I loved the SVX. I loved its comfort, its uniqueness. I made my land speed record in my SVX as well. She definitely performed. The car is glued to the road. In all my years of hard corners (man oh man I took some of those exit ramps at 90MPH+) the car never skidded laterally. It was as if it were on rails. The handling was amazing.
Cons: SVX Bad Stuff: Transmissions: If the transmission on the car you are looking to buy hasn't failed yet. It will. If it has failed, it may even fail again. The SVX has a notoreously inferior transmission. Minimum cost of repair of a failed transmission? $3,000 - $5,500. If you do get one, and the tranny fails, bring it to a repair place that gives you the option to buy a lifetime warranty for the tranny.. DO IT.. even if it costs a lot. The only other problem about the car is part availability and cost. Often, the car is difficult to repair, expensive to repair, and leaves you waiting for weeks. If it had been my primary car.. it would have been a problem
Overall review: Good luck. If you do get the car, you will love it I am sure. There are a lot of SVX enthusiasts out there, and it makes the car fun to own. Just make sure you are prepared for the possibility of a catastrophic failure of your tranny (nothing like driving along a highway in the middle of nowhere and suddenly hearing grinding metal). I'm not trying to turn you off to the car.. I just want you going into the purchase with your eyes wide open.
