Great family and work car
by Paul from Uniontown on 10/24/2010.
Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned 3 years.
1
Pros:
Great mileage, 40 plus mpg. Almost 200,000 miles stills runs like new. Easy to maintain and work on if needed. Plenty of room for kids in backseat, an average size adult could sit in back seat comfortably.
Cons:
Road noise, could be my tires though.Door seals tend to leak. Donut (mini) spare tire. I cannot stand those things.
Overall review:
All around great car. I typically drive 400-600 miles a week for work so this little thing saves some big time cash come gas up time.
I keep my tools, equipment and supplies in the spacious trunk. Clear that stuff out and refill with luggage come vacation time.
If I had to do it over I'd still buy this car

Better options out there
by Ali from the Lone Star State on 08/05/2004.
Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
inexpensive, looks
Cons:
Bad transmission (had to be replaced at 80k), seems cheaply made
Overall review:
This is not a horrible car, but there are definetly better options out there. Unless it's dirt cheap, keep on looking!

SATURN, The IMPORT BUSTER!
by Jay from Omaha, NE, (Go HUSKERS) on 05/20/2003.
Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned 6 years.
1
Pros:
The little 1.9L engine is a blast to drive. The acceleration is willing and the car handles well, (for a commuter sedan). The plastic body panels prove a nice feature everytime I wash the car, as it looks like new even though I know that it's been whacked several times by careless people with car doors and shopping carts. The interior is laid out well, especially compared to the imports. It is much more comfortable for tall people, like myself, than the Honda Accord. At 65,000 miles, the Saturn has been very reliable. No repairs, just maintenance!
Cons:
The seat is not comfortable for more than two hours, although the lumbar support helps a bit. The car is somewhat noisy. Wind noise is prominent around the window seals and road noise seems to eminate through the entire chassis. I've got one door panel that rattles, (always has). In fairness, I never asked the dealer to fix the rattle.
Overall review:
I compared this car to several other cars before I bought it. My friends urged me to look at Honda and Toyota. The Honda was uncomfortable and I just didn't like any of the Toyota models. Not only was the Saturn a better car for me, but it is 95% AMERICAN MADE. I've always been proud of that, especially when I see some goof flying two American flags from a KIA/Hundai/Nissan/Mitsubishi/Honda/Toyota/Mazda!
My Saturn is such a good vehicle that I'm gonna give it to my daughter when I'm done with it.
