best car made in the usa baby!!! by jtcanyoncruiser on 09/23/2009. Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Ordered from mfgr in summer of 98.live in topanga cyn and the car has been awesome.now has 132k replaced aux.belt and water pump, no major problems ever.cheap insurance because of safety factors.my wife and i have put hard LA traffic miles on this car and it keeps going strong.on long trips 40+mpg.yes watch the oil over 3k might take 1/2 qt.same pads on rear changed front pads 3times.all the techs at saturn of the valley have sl1 and 2's.best car!
Cons: sits low but has sporty handling being close to ground.you have to plan a u-turn as the turning radius is short.techs said you won't wear out front end parts as often as japanese cars and their problematic front end issues.techs were right no allignment issues or front end work at all.
Overall review: great car for towing behind motorhome (flat on all four wheels) a/c has always blown cold.just a great experiance owning the car and being part of saturn family

Great family and work car by Paul from Uniontown on 10/24/2010. Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned 3 years.
Pros: Great mileage, 40 plus mpg. Almost 200,000 miles stills runs like new. Easy to maintain and work on if needed. Plenty of room for kids in backseat, an average size adult could sit in back seat comfortably.
Cons: Road noise, could be my tires though.Door seals tend to leak. Donut (mini) spare tire. I cannot stand those things.
Overall review: All around great car. I typically drive 400-600 miles a week for work so this little thing saves some big time cash come gas up time. I keep my tools, equipment and supplies in the spacious trunk. Clear that stuff out and refill with luggage come vacation time. If I had to do it over I'd still buy this car

Cheap Wonder-Car by Kevin from Washington on 08/15/2009. Trim: 1998 Saturn SL2, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: It's very reliable and has a lot of accessories for a '98 vehicle (AC, cruise control, rear defrost, etc.). The ride is smooth and quiet; I sometimes forget that the engine is even running when i'm at a stop!(but I am used to diesel trucks) The milage is great at 35-39 mpg. Their is plenty of trunk space and fold-down rear seats, which is great for long trips of vacations. The seating is pretty comfortable for long drives.
Cons: The shifting isn't as smooth as i'd like (i have a 5 speed manual). And the acceleration could be better. Interior design could have had a little more effort, but it's okay, especially for a '98.
Overall review: For a '98 i think it's an amazing car. it's reliable and performs to any task i require.

Expect a Long, Dependable Life from this Car! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/28/2008. Trim: 1998 Saturn SL1, Owned 6 years.
Pros: I bought the '98 SL1 in 2002 at 70k and it's now at 150k (2008). I've taken it on 2100 mile trips from Florida to Canada and back, and also used it for a long work commute on the interstate for a year. Now it's my about town car, as my husband prefers to take his car on longer trips. I've LOVED how reliable and smooth this car has performed for me. It's never needed any major repairs, just some fuel injection cleaning, brake pads and such. It has a long life still ahead of it. Great gas mileage means I only have to fill it up every couple weeks.
Cons: The signal lever is quite loud when you turn on/off the blinkers. Other than tiny things like this, it's perfect! After an oil change at the dealership, it looks great, since they always wash and vacuum it for free.
Overall review: Very reliable, easy to maintain, great car for long distance or in town driving!
