964 - Under appreciated and a car ahead of it's time by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/12/2010. Trim: 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Classic recognizable 911 shape. Simple instrument panel - no electronics (which may be a drawback for some). AC that actually works. Plenty of horsepower in the 3.6L engine. Rear seats are essentially child seats. Relatively maintenance free - I say relatively. You can run and operate this vehicle with minimal cash outlay - however it becomes a slippery slope as you start to spend money to upgrade - brakes, suspension, rims, chips, exhaust etc.
Cons: Little gremlins become an annoyance - however are usually simple to remedy (eg. window switches). Constant oil drips - very rare to find a dripless air-cooled car. Factory (North American) suspension is a joke - if it hasn't been done you'll need to lower the car for appearance and handling.
Overall review: Overall, the "964" is one of the 911's that doesn't quite get all the respect it deserves. It was the first major change from the pre 89 911. Cosmetically it looked very similar however under the skin it was 95% a totally different car. It's stuck between a rock and a hard place, sitting in between the "993" and the pre 89 911's. The 964 is definately a car that should not be overlooked, in time it may garner some more appreciation. Great value for the capital outlay required these days.

Sweet Sure Footed Beast by PGS on 09/20/2002. Trim: 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 coupe, Owned 7 years.
Pros: In Seattle home to some of the worst (but polite) driver on the planet. Where although the winter rains are perrenial and most drivers still have no idea about driving in the elements. This car continues to amaze and delight. Sure footed, very fast (especially in the mountain passes). Its also nice to be in a car that does not scream "new.com money". (Besides those guys typically can't drive).
Cons: The AC's lackluster performance. The power roof and windows are a little squirrely (age) Generally though for the unknowing the car tends to attract the ocassional Friday Night Racer dude in some suped-up Hondaesque vehicle. They typically dont seem to know what the 911 is all about, hence great posturing and much readlining of little engines which can be a little irrating.
Overall review: Outstanding Fun. But make sure you look over your shoulder occasionally, sometimes people want to follow you

(Nice car) Thanks! by Maddog from Ski country Colorado on 05/05/2002. Trim: 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 coupe, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: A real head turner. Likes to be revved to redline over and over. Easy to keep clean inside and out with just a little time each week. Likes 3rd gear for passing (up to around 110 mph). Amazing brakes, just a great car. It's time to live your life -do it in this car.
Cons: Make sure your 1990 C4 or C2 has been updated. Oil leaks are common and this was fixed on many models -but not all. Mine was not but it does not effect the performance or drivability. My mechanic says it's about a $5,000 fix but not totally necessary. The leaks are few and far between. Keep an eye on the oil level and have lots of fun!
Overall review: I love this car. You will too if you don't have some hang up on practical-only cars that aren't fun to drive. They make minivans for people like that. It's an absolute joy. Buy it, drive it, but please maintain it for the next guy.
