The mighty van that refuses to quit. by Pontiac dweller. on 06/10/2011. Trim: 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport 3-Door, Owned 9 years.
Pros: Reliability, good gas mileage, sporty and slightly aggressive styling. The van I own is the regular 3-door and not the extended Montana version which is not the most comfortable van but it gets the job done. The Pontiac Transport looks nicer and sportier than most mini-vans if you get fog lights and if the color of the bumpers match the body. As many owners have mentioned the Pontiac Transport is surprisingly fast. It has kick to it when you step on the gas which is common for a Pontiac. Overall the balance of power and fuel economy makes the Pontiac Transport a perfect mini-van for families who are constantly on the go. The best part of the Transport is the reasonable price.
Cons: The regular 3-door version is not very comfortable for passengers in back rows which ruins the whole concept of the minivan. Even the children are uncomfortable in the van. So if you want the family to ride along with you (chances are you want to purchase a mini-van only to haul around the kids) buy the Montana or extended version. The Montana or extended version is much more comfortable for the family. I rented the same year Montana for a road-trip and everyone was comfortable and we are a family of tall people. A notable problem is the battery is located under the fuse box which is a pain when the battery needs to be recharged. Even roadside assistance has problems with it.
Overall review: Overall the Pontiac Transport is a great van. Some people say its looks are similar to the Dodge Caravan but the Transport is a sportier and more stylish version of the Caravan. The fuel efficiency and power is perfectly balanced and the family will ride comfortable if you buy the Montana version. I love my Pontiac because it is a great value. I purchased my Transport in 2002 for less then $7,000 and I drive it daily to this day. It is comfortable for my long commutes to work (50+ miles daily) and it gets excellent gas mileage on the highway. Unfortunately, my van has over 160k miles and is in need of some major repairs but after all of the torture it has endured, I am considering rebuilding the engine and transmission because it is still running strong even in my very long commutes to work. In conclusion, if you want a family van at a great price, the Transport is for you. It will keep going and going unlike the other cars I've owned.

Good overall value by Dan on 07/11/2006. Trim: 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport 3-Door, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great power, good value, drives nice. Brakes work well with ABS. Lots of room for my large family. Very comfortable. No major problems yet. Been very dependable. Good AC, heater. Faster than most cars.
Cons: Minor issues, like some trim, radio display, and brakes squealing.
Overall review: Bought used with 120k on it. No major problems so far. Decent mileage and great power with 3.4L engine and roller rockers. Minor trim problems, radio won't display. Seats are hard to remove and replace. Safety issues worry me. Drives nice, very solid, could use new shocks though. Brakes work well but squeak. Overall a decent mini-van.

The ultimate family vehicle by Desi on 02/19/2006. Trim: 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport Extended 4-Door, Owned 8 years.
Pros: I have owned this van for more than 7 years - trouble free ownership all along. It has got plenty of power, good road handling, still drives like a luxury, don't feel any noise inside !!! Wonder why people say 'go for imports', this is as good as any van can be.. may be better. I have taken it for long drives (2500+ miles), no problem. I have driven this baby in the mountains, no problem climbing steep roads.
Cons: Nothing major. Insulation could be little better. The audio tends to heat up a bit.
Overall review: I highly recommend this van to anyone looking for a nice family vehicle. Trouble free driving with plenty of power and a nice road grip.

Awesome by Tom from Houston TX on 11/15/2005. Trim: 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport Extended 4-Door, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Purchased for a little over $5,000 the extended Montana trim over a year ago with +80k miles and now have +120k miles. Never having owned a Pontiac I didn't quite know what to expect but soon found power, room, comfort, and good gas mileage (always above 20 mpg) it's great.
Cons: Minor issues with transmission.....had to replace a couple of sensors.
Overall review: Bought with with many miles and have added another 40k miles on it with no major issues. I would definetly recommend it and will drive it till it dies.
