more bang for the buck than a vette
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/01/2003.
Trim: 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
This is definitly a vehicle for the chosen few that care more for performance than comfort. If you want a fast car that can leave anything short of a viper or a vette in the dust this is the car for you.
Cons:
Water pump and optispark are the weak points on this car check them closely before buying.
Overall review:
awesome performance and a real head turner when its running

Not your ordinary car.
by TransAmRacer on 04/03/2002.
Trim: 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
I love the way this car looks, and it has a nice big engine, and tons of available bolt ons to make this car rock. Definitely a chick magnet, and outperforms many cars, even the Mustang GT. This car also handles really well and is easy to control. With a powerful 350 engine, same as the Corvette, this car has plenty of muscle.
Cons:
Needs some more performance, gets beat by the Mustang Cobra, which only has a 4.6L engine, versus the 5.7 in the Trans Am. With some bolt ons, like some new headers, cams, and exhaust, you can make this car really fast though. Also, the back seats aren't all that roomy, but I haven't seen many sports cars that have roomy backseats. Insurance rates are high for this vehicle too.
Overall review:
Great car, easy to get parts for, so far. I'm upset that Pontiac stopped making these cars, so I hope parts will still be available for them in the future. My dealer says I should not worry about parts, and that this won't be an issue. I would recommend this vehicle if you want to feel the awesome power of a big 5.7L V8 engine, and cruise in style.

Mid life Crisis

Pros:
Fun to drive, this is my mid-life crisis car! I love the throaty growl of the engine. Just wish there was somewhere to wind her up and let her run.
Cons:
Long drives are not comfortable for the passenger. Fair weather car.
Overall review:
For a performance vehicle I didn't see anything else that compared in looks and price. FUN!
