Good ours was not maintained well before we got it.

Pros:
needed a affordable car and it has lasted 2 years we got it when it was 15 years old. When my dad got it is was not in good shape but it kept going for the first year with only 1 oil change.
Cons:
started to die every other month however it was not maintained all that well.it got about 32 mpg highway. the seats were old and junk and did not sit up strait enough. A gas smell came in the cabin when the heating was turned on . Watch for a anti-theft system anti theft system is in older sunfires if the car does not start because of a electrical problem do not keep trying theft system might kick in then you will need to turn it off in order to get the car to start
Overall review:
Keep it maintained and it will do fine. ours had to be used as the family car which sucked because i often had to ride in the back( it was a 2 door). my dad took it to work everyday on the highway and the car got about 39k km on it every year. the exhaust pipe sucked! it fell hung low and all the mounts rotted away. few engine problems really water pump oil the cooling system started failing and the brake lines needed to be replaced. the worst problem is rusting out on the bottom but when we got it ,it was in poor shape.ours still ran even with over 290k km on it.

Handles ok, looks ok, rides ok, GREAT GAS MILEAGE!
Cons:
Engine and Transmission Died at 100k miles. But hey for an American economy car you can't expect for much more.
Overall review:
Nice little car, sips gas. Had numerous minor fixes through the last 9 years. However the engine and transmission went at 100k miles and cost more to fix than the car was worth. We fixed anyway and still drive it to this day. 130k miles and still going at over 30mpg. Not bad.

CAUTION! JUNK!

Pros:
I have nothing positive to say about this car!
Cons:
I had repeated problems with this car ranging from electrical to exhaust. My exhaust rattled constantly and was very loud. This is when the car was purchased brand new.
Overall review:
If you don't mind a car with constant problems then this is the one for you.

Where do I start? I spent enough money to buy a new car on this piece of shiite. I replaced the water pump, the alternator twice, the timing chain, the master cylinder. The electrical system is faulty. The braking stinks, when I hit the brake hard it thumps real hard from the back, like I had been hit from behind. I don't know what the heck makes that sound. It leaks fluid like a stuck pig. I tried to be patient and paid it off...NOT a week after the last payment, the power steering went out! This car should be put out to pasture, Sunfire is shiite!!! I don't recommend this car at all. If you own one, I'm sorry but hire Guido to send it down the river!

Umm..let me think...It's a LEMON! Hey Pontiac, this car should be discontinued!!
