Decent used car over all! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 07/22/2010. Trim: 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS, Owned 3 years.
Pros: I've had my car for about 3 years now. It has always a smooth ride of course, The ignition has always worked nicely and the car turns over very well for a 98 it doesn't require alot of cranking like alot of cars do when they get to be about this age. It has a nice low-to-the ground feel. Overall, I'm satisfied with the features in my GLS. I haven't really had much need for repairs that really affect the way the car drives. I always thought the car looked very sharp from the back except for those models that lack the wing spoiler. The paint on mine remains just about flawless!
Cons: The car seems to have a kindof "heavy" feel to it when driving it, like it weighs alot. I'm more into the quick and little type of car. I also feel it would be nice for this model to have come with maybe a little more horsepower, has 195 for a V6 of it's year and trim of vehicle I think something like 220 sounds a little better for it. I've had multiple issues with the suspension on mine, had to replace my shocks, struts, and stabilizer bars - multiple issues with the A/C system, and I believe I might have a minor oil leak- possible the rear main seal. The interior as far as the dashboard and door panels seem poorly done. They could of made the front of the car look a little more agressive .
Overall review: Overall it seems like a very well-balanced and reliable car. I feel confident that for a car with already 150500 miles on it, it will last for quite a while more. The engine seems to be pretty durable and good quality. I appreciate it for what it is. I do think that it is nicer overall than the used 2000 mazda millenia that my dad has.

Great truck for a car. by Minnesota -rust owner on 12/29/2009. Trim: 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: I've owned this car since new. It has 114,000 miles. It does handle very well of all the cars I tried out before purchasing this felt the most solid yet responsive. The ride is nice and the room is great. It has actually been a very good truck for a car. It is very easy to see out of the car in any direction. It is very open no big corner posts that block your veiw or give dead spaces. The stereo system is great with the CD player in the trunk and out of the way, the only problem with it in the trunk is if I overload the trunk I have knocked at door open a bit and then need to go back and shut it. Most parts I have had to replace are easily accessible except the gas tank filler tube.
Cons: I have had some problems. I've had to replace the brakes quite often. The aluminum wheels leak air & always need to keep the tires aired up. The biggest draw back it the body design underneath. The rocker panels get dirt in them & it can't get out so the car rusts, I have about a foot on either side that hasn't fallen off it is rusted. The floor in the middle is still solid. I should have a lot more miles in this car but when I go I hope it won't fall apart on the highway when I go over a bump. I also have had electrical problems with the headlights. Right now I don't have low beams. The blower motor has been replaced once but will still make noise occassionally. Hole in the fuel overfill.
Overall review: I like my car for the most part it hasn't had any real major problems. NOW that I have said that wish me luck. The brakes, I have been able to change, the idler pully, serpentine belts are all easy to replace. I had to have the water pump replaced and the fuel filler tube. Now I'll need to take it in for the lights. If it wasn't so rusty I don't mind putting some money into but after crawling under it, it is a little scary. But if you figure the purchase price and repairs & divide it out it hasn't cost to much to own this car. I was just hoping it would make it to retirement. I took such good care keeping it clean inside & out and underneath but it still rusted. If they still manufactured these cars I would probably purchase another. Mine was the first production year & now it is as all OLDS are now like and EDSEL.

Severe Reliability Issues by Doug on 07/30/2009. Trim: 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue Base, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Handles very well. The steering wheel feels light and agile, and the car accelerates swiftly. Placement of the steering wheel and shifting handle is very comfortable for the driver.
Cons: Significant reliability problems. Have owned the car for ~5 years, car is a 1998 model. It has required expensive maintenance at nearly a monthly rate. Currently, the a/c has malfunctioned, paint is chipping off the front bumper, the ignition housing has already had to be replaced, and the engine frequently drops in RPM, causing the "service engine soon" light to illuminate. The center console also collapsed, requiring replacement. MPG has dropped to 16 avg. Oil is changed regularly, the car is driven mildly in the Midwest, and is not subject to any extreme operation, yet these problems continue.
Overall review: Not all owners seem to have all of these problems, but I see recurrent problems among the reviews. This car just happened to have all of them. The car drives well, but only when it's working. For me, the reliability problems have completely overshadowed any positive experiences. I would not recommend this vehicle, as many these problems didn't seem to ever be fixed in its production life.
