Pros:
R-E-L-I-A-B-L-E, amazing power, high mpg, 4-door convenience, spacious interior and trunk.
Cons:
A/C not cold enough.
Overall review:
Bought car in 2002 from original owner, at 86K miles. Abused it for the next 3-4 years driving about 30K miles/year. Weekly non-stop 270-mile trips between Las Vegas and LA. Looks tame, but "king of the road" performance. With the smooth 5-speed shift, easily climbs 30 degree steep hills at over 100 mph. Easily embarrasses souped up/ expensive/ newer cars leaving everyone "frozen" in the rear mirror. This car is so reliable, I got into the bad habit of maintaining it "when I remember". Clutch was replaced 2 years ago. Before the repair, clutch was smooth and very forgiving. After repair, changing gear is a bit rough, and clutch oil needs replenishing every 2-3 months (I attribute this problem to a bad repair). A/C is not cold enough for the scorching 100+ degree heat of Las Vegas. A/C system checks OK and freon is full, but cabinet temperature stays warm. (I don't hear complains by other Maxima drivers about their A/C. Mine seems an anomaly.) Best car for the money. Amen.

Pros:
Power and acceleration after 15 years and 277K miles. Roominess. Comfort. Reliability.
Cons:
Paint is fading a bit. Radio antenna needs a little to push to go up/down (not bad for a 15 year old car!).
Overall review:
I can’t believe I’ve had my car for 15 years and I’m still loving every minute of it! (Yes, it’s been better than some marriages I’ve seen). After more than 277,000 miles on the odometer I can tell you it’s been a trouble free and fun ride. Are there any other 15-year-old cars on the road with still their original unrepaired engine and transmission? I don’t know about the current Maximas, but when Nissan built mine back in 1997 they probably wanted it to outlive the owner…lol. My sweet Maxima is so powerful and reliable that I expect it to go forever, but if it takes its last breath tomorrow, I’d cry a little, and walk away with a big grin because it asked for so little and gave so much more in return (isn’t this what true love is all about?). Bottom line: why am I writing about a 15-year-old daily workhorse? (you know the newness is long gone!). It’s for you kids out there looking for an affordable second-hand transportation. You just found a hidden gem here!
