Solid for six years
by Matt-Southern NJ on 12/08/2002.
Trim: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder XE 4-door 4WD, Owned 6 years.
1
Pros:
It is a QX4 for about $3000 less
Very dependable; I've had no problems with the vehicle although the dealer shop is always finding something that needs replacing
Great utility vehicle
Cons:
Must Manually set 4 wheel drive
gas mileage low
Taller passengers complain about head room
Overall review:
I have to say that my whole process with this vehicle has been very positive. Dealer maintanence has been weak, but I have not had any vehicle stopping malfunctions in 6 years/80,000 miles
What originally sold me and remains true is that this is the QX4 without leather or an Infiniti badge. Most carlike ride of other 4x4s available at the time. Having said this with the evolution of all wheel drive (all four wheels capable of turning independently, vs. the 96 Pathfinder where the front wheels lock and spin at the same rate on the front axle) I would buy a new SUV that offers this feature as the all wheel drive is as helpful in a big summer rainstorm as it is in 7 inches of snow

Comfortable Truck
by Salty from Denver CO on 09/06/2002.
Trim: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder XE 4-door 4WD, Owned 6 years.
1
Pros:
Drives live a sedan, but has the space of an SUV. Very quiet and comfortable ride.
Cons:
Had problems with the Radio/CD.
Overall review:
Very reliable, easy to park, comfortable for all passengers. The engine doesn't change whether there is one person or four with AC. Drives good in the mountains, is not affected by altitude!
Back seats flip to give more room than a Jeep Chrokee. I have carried sod, pavers and mulch in the back -- the interior is very resiliant and cleans up well.

2nd time Nissan Owner
by A CarPoint Consumer on 02/18/2002.
Trim: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4-door, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros:
I love the overall look both inside and out. I enjoy the seating capacity and the luggage storage available. Very comfortable to drive and ride in.
Cons:
rear seat entry is tight, have some difficulties moving the spare tire to open back.
Overall review:
Comming from a 95 Nissan King Cab XE to this is quite a change, I love feeling pampered with the vehicle after paying quite a bit less then others. The mileage is better than expected and comfort is worth it. Very good investment and will continue to buy Nissan quality.

PATHFINDER-The Name Says It All
by A CarPoint Consumer on 10/13/2001.
Trim: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder XE 4-door 2WD, Owned 5 years.
1
Pros:
Fun to drive, size allows for easy manueverability in city driving.
Very reliable and low maintenance. Engine is rock solid.
A/C works great even when inside of vehicle is very hot from sitting in the sun.
Cons:
Passenger seats are stiffer than driver's. Initial set of tires(Bridgestone Duelers) were a disappointment and had to be replaced at 30K, Michelin LTX would be better. Stereo controls
were breaking during second year and was replaced in third year.
Gas mileage is not as good as I'd hoped.
Overall review:
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned and the cons that I listed
were minimal compared to what I've seen of other makes and models. I knew the Pathfinder would be a dependable vehicle for many years which is why I spent the extra money to get it. It has
surpassed all of my expectations. Nissan will always be at the top of the list whenever I buy a future vehicle.
