Just Won't Quit by Cajun on 03/24/2011. Trim: 1996 Nissan Pickup XE Reg. Cab 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros: Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Been through Louisiana mud, Donner Pass blizzard with chains, I-5 Siskiyou Summit ice, Nevada pogonip, sure-footed with no handling or safety problems. No major repairs, ever, just by-the-book scheduled maintenance. Replaced stereo. Have not towed but have hauled beaucoups loads of rock, topsoil, and other bulk landscaping materials. 153,000 miles in 15 years and just getting "broke in good." Cost of ownership has been less $750/year or $2/day. Operating costs are low as well since it was a cash purchase so no comprehensive insurance, only liability, and maintenance costs are minimal.
Cons: The usual for the 4X4 version of this particular truck. Mileage could be better. Power could be better. Gas cap cover won't stay closed, but the gas tank doesn't hold enough to worry about somebody siphoning off your gas. Headliner sagging. Headlights are dim after 15 years; have to spend $20 on new bulbs. Bed is starting to show a few little exterior rust spots at welds after 15 years, but otherwise cleans up real pretty with only occasional Turtle wash/wax. Not luxurious by any means but that's not what it was bought for.
Overall review: Sure glad I didn't trade this beast in during the cash for clunkers program. Have not calculated lifetime costs per mile but has to be ultra low.

Pretty cool little truck ! by Gary V on 02/21/2006. Trim: 1996 Nissan Pickup XE Reg. Cab 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: I like the looks and for a small truck it has power on the back roads when needed, and even cruising down the highway once you get past 45 MPH haha. The 4 wheel drive is good, when needed.Runs pretty reliably so far. It only has 81,900 orig miles on it and many more to go as long as the rust doesn't get it 1st.
Cons: I find it kind of uncomfortable w/ the bench seats. The seats also don't slide back and fourth well when adjusting. It's also pretty bouncy and thats w/ good shocks & struts on it.The gas mileage is below average for a 4 cyl.The gas cover doesn't like to stay shut when driving. After using the seatbelts, they don't recoil back in like they should. The surface rust is starting to show in places and not just underneath but in bed area some. And also don't like the fact that in the back wheel well areas its all open and not closed in like most vech's. Too much mud and salt from the roads can get in.
Overall review: But all in all, its a truck and its pretty fun and pretty rugged for what it is. It's the 2nd Nissan p/u that I've owned, so I guess I must like them.

RELIABLE INDEED by Allen on 09/08/2005. Trim: 1996 Nissan Pickup Reg. Cab 2WD, Owned 7 years.

Pros: EXTREMELY RELIABLE TRUCK. Good gas mileage (27 mpg if I drive 65mph) Have had next to no problems with minor routine maintainence (fuel filter, oil + filter, coolant replacement at regular scheduled intervals) A/C just keeps on truckin'
Cons: Rough ride(what truck doesn't?) Bench seat is a little uncomfortable
Overall review: I have had my truck for 7 years now and have had mostly minor problems except for the clutch replacement at 220,000 miles. I am a bank courier , so I put lots of miles on it. Right now the odometer is at 230,900 and the truck seems to be okay, no smoke or engine noise. I hope I can get many more out of it. One reviewer said he had put over 500,000 on an older model. I hope to exceed that. I'll let you know if I do or not.

Nothing fancy ... just runs like clockwork by SuperMax on 03/14/2005. Trim: 1996 Nissan Pickup XE Reg. Cab 2WD, Owned 9 years.
1
Pros: Excruciatingly reliable vehicle. 170k before the first required mechanical repair (it had a couple of non-essential repairs done to it along the way .. like stereo/speakes/etc). With a good set of Michelin passenger tires it rides very quietly and comfortably. Even though its a 4x2 and 4cyl it has been up to the task of towing a small boat and hauling extreme weights and has never failed me when called upon. Withstands extremely rough treatment thru potholes and curbs without batting an eye. Regular maintenance/upkeep is cheap. Heat, A/C, and stereo exceed expectations due to the small cab (The A/C will freeze you out even with its 100 w/95% humidity outside).
Cons: Cosmetic hardware is cheaply made. Replaced a sagging headliner, door panel, and glovebox with ones gleaned from a junkyard. Gas door won't stay closed, rear leaf springs creak and groan in low speed maneuvering. Bench seat and Reg. cab means an extreme lack places to carry even moderately sized items. Mileage isn't bad, but not horribly impressive for a 4 cyl.
Overall review: I bought this new in '96 and its still in service today with 196k miles. Its not a "nice" or "luxurious" vehicle but its reliability and cheap operating costs makes it darn near perfect as a work vehicle.
