Rest in peace by Hard driver, Madison WI on 03/31/2004. Trim: 1997 Mercury Mystique GS, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Good on the highway. Comfortable on long drives
Cons: Maintenance costs -- dump it before 125,000 or replace transmission 148,000, water pump 160,000, the emission sensors also start to fail -- Final died at 190,000 due to timing belt failure.
Overall review: Good car to buy cheap and run to death.

Great everday vehicle for the family or or college student by Chelle From Missouri on 07/16/2008. Trim: 1997 Mercury Mystique GS, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Good handling, decent gas mileage and a conmfortable ride. There is enough room for a family of four adnd it offers good accessibility to the rear seat. No mechanical problems to date!
Cons: A little sluggish when the air condtioner is running.
Overall review: I have owned my 1997 Mercury Mystique GS automatic 4 cyl, for a year and a half and have had virtually no trouble with it. It has 135,000 miles on it and still runs great! This car handles very well land gets around great in the snow and ice! I drive this car to school at leat twice a week and as an everyday around town car with my two kids. There is enough room for two booster seats/car seats in the back with ample accessibility. My experience with gas mileage has been about average with what all of reviews have said. I average about 22 mpg and do quite a bit of city driving. Overall a great and affordable car.
