The tank that Mercury built by Ray from Blytheville,AR on 10/27/2008. Trim: 1988 Mercury Tracer 2-Door, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: My 88 tracer has been through 10 owners, has 173,000 miles, and looks like it has seen too many battles, but is excellent on gas mileage and is very dependable.
Cons: It is a pain in the rear to find parts for being 20 years old.
Overall review: getting 38.9 mpg is good, but for a 6 foot tall person it isn't the most comfortable car to drive on long roadtrips. I know I just drove mine 365 miles from Illinois to Arkansas.

The Mighty Mighty Merc SuperSport XRJ-Z22 TwinTurbo Rally Edition by JP from Statesvegas on 08/15/2005. Trim: 1988 Mercury Tracer 4-Door, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Nice aerodynamic shape. 4 doors made entry easy. Back windows roll all the way down, so backseat riders with their arm out the window won't lose circulation. Can fit a great deal of stuff in the back. Fun to drive in the twisties and around town. Comfortable front seat for short to medium distance riding.
Cons: The drivetrain is a little underpowered. With the 3-speed auto, try to avoid the interestate. After 65 mph, she started shaking violently. After 75 mph (you have to hold the gas down a long time), it's a constant struggle. But still fun racing Dodge Ram 1500s.
Overall review: A most fantastic first car. Unfortunately, mine had an oil leak, and being the irresponsible youth I was, didn't pay it no mind, and so she's no more. But this car was so memorable, to this day, over 4 years later, she still brings a tear to my eye. I regularly hauled 3-5 people in her, and never noticed any trouble from her. I could fill her up with an 80 gallon drum, some folding metal chairs, a scaffold ladder(whatever it's called), some trashcans, and still have room for 2 passengers. I will own another one (hopefully a straight drive, though, next time). Oh, and the 2 doors don't look right. Stick with 4. And, she's easily recognizable. Anyone I went to school with knew "the Mighty Mighty Merc SuperSport XRJ-Z22 TwinTurbo Rally Edition" (though few knew her full name). And those that knew her well still hold a place for her in their heart.

Chicks dig it by AutoCritic from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada on 01/03/2003. Trim: 1988 Mercury Tracer 2-Door, Owned 8 years.
Pros: This car was a decent car to own - a good single-guy, single-girl or student car. It was reasonably good on gas, and you can fit it in tight, student parking with no problem. I upgraded the stereo so that I didn't feel completely inadequate while behind the wheel.
Cons: This one only had a 4 speed MANUAL transmission for some reason, so it was loud as hell on the highway. It was also severely underpowered It had absolutely no amenities - no tachometer, no a/c, not even a clock! Also the bearings kept wearing out - I melted a spindle in the back because I neglected to keep the bearings serviced - $500 job.
Overall review: For the family man, definitely stay clear. For the partying-teen - a perfect car for 3 seasons.
