Black Beauty by BLACK/TAN 96 E320 on 08/22/2007. Trim: 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned 3 years.
Pros: A very well engineered and well built vehicle. Just leave automotive production to the Germans already!
Cons: If you can perform the routine maintinance stuff on the car, you'll love it. Car is very easy to work on, very straight forward, and lots of info on the web on how-to sites to help you along. If you bring a car to the dealership or a mechanic for every little hiccup, this definately is not the car for you!
Overall review: Fun to drive, very stylish, great performance, excellent value for the money. I love mine.

"The E thrill" by Speakgirl from California on 01/15/2007. Trim: 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned 7 years.
Pros: Interior, appearance, performance - braking and handling is very acceptable.
Cons: The sound system is not that great.
Overall review: Over-all this car performs very well, even after 10 years and 78,000 miles. Low maintenance, stylish, comfort. What more could I ask for?

Not a bad car if you have money to burn by Trackrich on 11/20/2004. Trim: 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Styling, comfort, and ride are top notch. Acceleration at highway speeds is impressive, but lacks some low-end torque. Mileage is better than I expected for a big powerful car.
Cons: This is a VERY expensive car to own and I have had numerour repair problems. I am the second owner and I purchased from an MB dealer. So far have needed well over $3000 in repairs in only 6 months and that's with only 50k miles on the car. Several electrical problems, 2 rust spots developing, and had to replace the front ball joints. Make sure you've got your checkbook handy if you plan to buy one.
Overall review: I won't buy another one. Ownership cost has been way too high, dealer has been indifferent to problems, and a letter written to corporate about the problems was responded to with a smug and condescending tone. Car looks nice and is pretty fun to drive, but isn't worth it.

E - I -E - I - Oh by Tater Salad in NY on 07/31/2004. Trim: 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Rock solid ride. Good acceleration at interstate speeds. When polished up, it looks sweet.
Cons: Electricals fail to live up to MB world class marketing hype. Check engine light is recurrent, expensive problem with no end in sight as the dealer indicates it could any one of hundreds of errors being detected. To date, the only failure has been in the detection system for failures. Dealer unable to resolve: rattle in dashboard - dealer unable to hear it and wheel bearing that tire mechanic told me was malfunctioning - dealer unable to appreciate.
Overall review: Having owned a 3, 5 and E-class in succession over the last 17 years and driven them about 400K miles, I have concluded they are not worth the premium. I adhered to strict dealer servicing and acquiesced to their suggestion selling. In return for this one would expect flawless performance. Not the case by a long shot. My next car will be a Lexus or Acura.

Go with the Benz by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/02/2004. Trim: 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned 3 years.
Pros: The E320 is a very spacious, solid, and classic auto. It's very comfortable to drive for both my wife at 5'3 and myself at 6'2. Relatively few problems at 150k miles but more problems than our 300D with 350k miles.
Cons: It doesn't lack power but expected a little more from a large luxury car. The E430 may be a better choice for the more aggressive driver. Blower motor is showing signs of needing a 2nd repair (replaced earlier in the year at over $800, hopefully the replacement part had a limited warranty).
Overall review: You'll get a much better deal and overall satisfaction buying a used E class compared to brand new similarly priced car.
