Good Investment by VANMAN on 08/18/2006. Trim: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E420, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Excellant styling. I constantly get comments on a twelve year old vehicle. Sporty ride but is still not harsh. Great high speed stability. Just right size. Very reliable. Getting sport tires really improves performance.
Cons: Its a little slow off the line, but thats mainly due to soft transmission gearing. The V8's are hard to work on because of lack of space and the price of parts are outrageous. Take it to a shop and they will really dig into your pockets.
Overall review: Do some research before you buy. These cars are pretty bullit proof if they have been cared for properly. Routine maintanence is the key. I have seen some with over 300,000 miles with no motor work other than scheduled maintanence. I am an average shade tree mechanic and some of it was a little high tech for me but you can get plenty of free info online.

The family car with steroids..the Q ship by Automotive engineer on 08/22/2005. Trim: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E420, Owned 7 years.
Pros: The ideal family car...classic styling with 'sleeper' performance. Seats 4 very comfortably. A simple car with all the necessary creature comforts you need (no need to have all those electronic control boxes that can go wrong down the road). If can not handle hi-performance driving, don't push it expecting these electronics to get you out of a jam. The last model generation (E or S class)I would buy, if I needed another Mercedes Benz since the quality is not there any more.
Cons: The HVAC is not unassuming as it should be for a luxury car...runs high all the time when in automatic mode. Terrible in the rain and snow with the OEM tyres with all that torque back there. Recommend changing to those 'rain' tyres to address the problem, but then you can't go very fast when it is dry. I suppose that when you need an AWD/4-matic. It is unfortunate Mercedes did not offer 4-matic back then with the V8. Maintenance cost is up there, but not as bad as BMWs (the other German luxury maker).
Overall review: If you find a well-kept E420, buy-it. This is the only opportunity to drive a REAL Mercedes. You will have many miles of enjoyment. These were the last years when Mercedes built vault-like cars.

Mercedes Benz E Class. The Ultimate Luxury Liner. by Thom on 05/24/2005. Trim: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320, Owned 1 year.
Pros: I bought this car used with 93k however it seem to have a very sturdy and nice luxurious feel. for 11 years old the car feels like a well made car should.
Cons: Some minor trim issues. It maintainence cost a little high as I had to a 90k replace things like the water pump a rear main seal leak these repairs were around $2 thousand.
Overall review: Not a bad investment overall the car is great. Ac cold the ride is nice the feel is as a luxury car should feel. You don't know you're in an 11 year old car.

Will put a smile on your face!!!! by Harvey kentucky on 03/21/2004. Trim: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E420, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Compared to other midsized autos the 420 is a rocket, unreal power and tork at any speed. super smooth and quiet. my 94 is quieter and smoother than any domestic is new. A well maintained Benz literally will out last its owner. More passing power than any car I have owned including corvette. You really cant appreciate a 420 till you have experienced it.
Cons: I find the delayed transmission shift annoying when the car is cold. Several minutes at idle corrects this. Converter has to warm up to 80 degrees before tns. shifts properly. I dont find anything about this car I dont like. I have owned about eight Benz. Great car.
Overall review: A used Benz is probably the best buy their is. I have a 1975 450 SE clock still keeps perfect time power antenna still operates. Still will embarrase most of so called performance cars on the road today. hard to beat a Benz!!!!
