ULTIMATE FUN MACHINE by COSMOBLACK98 on 04/08/2010. Trim: 1998 BMW M Roadster, Owned 10 years.
Pros: SPEED + WIND + SUN = FUN FUN FUN!!!
Cons: DON'T GET TO DRIVE IT ENOUGH
Overall review: Bought my Cosmo Black Roadster in 2000 as second owner with 13K. Went to dealer to purchase a new 3.0 Z3. Tested first the 3.0 then the Roadster, drove off the lot with the Roadster, paying more than I would have for the brand new 3.0. I know it's not as powerful as the newer M-Z3, but the 98 model, without the various new German alphabet handling control systems, is a pure Roadster in the traditional Euro Roadster tradition. Mine is not a daily driver, after 10 yrs ownership it registers 35K. Oil changes and a set of fresh tires @ 30K, no mechanical problems to speak of; other than needing to replace a scratched up plastic rear window for the soft top. I have kept the Roadster stock and plan on keeping it for a while. I thought of trading it in for Porche or some other sporty ride, but I just couldn't do it. It's just too much fun, a winding road top down on a sunny day; gobbling up the asphalt effortlessly just like the Ultimate Fun Machine it was designed to be.

M Roadster Rocks by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/19/2008. Trim: 1998 BMW M Roadster, Owned 10 years.
Pros: Fun car to drive. Fast and kind of raw. Poor handler on autocross, lots of understeers. After ten years of ownership, still a looker!
Cons: Costs: $1000 for inspection II, $3000 for clutch replacement, some interior trims coming off, plastic rear window replaced to the tune of $450.
Overall review: If you can handle the cost of ownership, a great fun car to have. Very old school, no traction control, no I drive, minimal electronic nannies...

If you like driving go karts by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/12/2005. Trim: 1998 BMW M Roadster, Owned 3 years.
Pros: This thing drives like a go-kart, it is so much fun! The gear box/lutch combo is easily the best i've ever driven.
Cons: Maintenance can get a little high and the clutch is a little grabby at launch.
Overall review: The goods outweigh the bads, this is a great car!

1998 M Roadster....the ultimate, ultimate driving machine : ) by ScottyD on 05/06/2004. Trim: 1998 BMW M Roadster, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: + Classic styling (how many 6 year old cars still draw appreciative looks?) + Supercar Performance and Handling + Reliability / Dependability + Quality fit and finish
Cons: - Insurance cost - lack cupholders - Golf clubs are a challenge in the trunk (but they do fit) - My daughter wants it when she turns 16
Overall review: I have owned several BMWs. No car drives like a BMW. This car however takes that feeling to a new level. After a stressful day at the office, I can unwind and smile by the time I get home....this car encourages me to take the long, curvy way home. If you are in the market for a car that is a blast to drive....find one and buy it.
