A practical impractical car
by The Wind Blew My Hair Off, But I'm Smiling on 10/20/2009.
Trim: 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata M Edition, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
The handling is just incredible. The fuel mileage is decent (about 33 city/hwy combined). The convertible top is super easy to put up or down (less than 30 seconds to do either). Repairs and maintenance are relatively inexpensive (in comparison to other passenger cars). The trunk size isn't as bad as everyone thinks (you can fit a few grocery bags in there). It's just a fun car to drive. Even the exhaust sounds great. I look for any excuse to take it out for a ride.
Cons:
When the top is up, I find it a little difficult getting into the car. Too bad the 94's didn't have an available 6th gear.
Overall review:
You may not want to take this car to Costco. (But you can get a few things from the supermarket). You cannot take a family of four up a snow covered mountain skiing. (But you can take a weekend trip for two to the beach). If you have an extra garage bay or space in the driveway and want the open-air sports car experience, on a very small budget, you have to consider this car. I guess it's a practical impractical car. But man is it fun! Go get one, you won't be disappointed.

I had a 1961 Morgan, thought I wanted another Morgan until
I stumbled upon this gem with 25,000 miles on it. No other
car I've ever owned gave me as much pleasure as this one does.

Overall review:
This car is rare because it does everything it looks like it would do.We drove it about 1000mi the first week across country and in St Louis with no problems. Took 2 days worth of clothing and went everywhere we wanted. What a great car to travel and vacation in! The Miata is as much fun as the trip! This '94 model is a real fuel miser and a snap to maintain. We like the tan leather seats and interior. Top down driving is very liberating, but not too airy as in some converts. The controls are right where they should be-a la Porsche. Although not a good choice for towing 4-wheeling, hauling lumber, or car pooling--Miata is free from the driving restrictions of other cars. Practical is in the mind of the ownerwho knows fun when he sees it.

Good for the soul
by hauserce from nation's capital on 06/21/2001.

Pros:
The car is perfectly packaged. It is very quick yet gives 28 mpg despite my lead foot. It handles very well and is fun without being too serious and removed. It is reminescent of the heydey of true sports cars from the 1960's and is still very reliable. This car has a personality that I haven't had in many other cars (I've owned over a dozen cars). But most of all, on the right night with the top down and good weather on a twisty back road - this car is just good for the soul. (Three friends have agreed and also bought their own Miata.)
Cons:
This car is a bit small for 6'2"+ people or those over 200lbs. The trunk is small enough to actually be humorous. I get nervous on the highway when SUVs stumble near me (can they see me?). And the seats are a little hard on the back if your trip is over 4 hours. (I am 5'11" and 185 lbs and have a good back).

This car is a bit small for 6'1"+ people or those over 200lbs. The trunk is small enough to actually be humorous. I get nervous on the highway when SUVs stumble near me (can they see me?). Finally, the seats are uncomfortable after 4 hours.
SUMMARY
A great daily driver that has more fun per dollar than any car I have owned or wanted. My next car will be either another Miata with an aftermarket supercharger or a BMW 530i.

Pros:
A real kick to drive; handles superbly on or off the track. Design is timeless. Spell Miata "FUN"!!!
Cons:
In truth, my only objection to the car was one aspect inspired by its heritage - I didn't care for the "bug-eye" headlights. Aftermarket low-profile twin beams took care of this in about 1 1/2 hours - and there's never been a problem with them. Everything else is just swell!! (Oh, yeah; if you're over 5'11" you probably want to forget this one.)
Overall review:
This little gem is truly timeless. Originally inspired by the AH "bug-eye" Sprite it has updated the styling into a classic design, added a number of niceties and produced a well thought out FUN consumer vehicle. Whether you're 16 or 60 the thrill (and safety) of wheeling this number around, top down, in virtually any surrounding is just plain fun. Aftermarket goodies are available to address some of the vehicles (slight) shortcomings, like no trunk space and a horn that is truly out of character with the rest of the design and will certainly help you overcome any objections you might have to any aspect of the car AND STILL KEEP THE TOTAL PRICE WAY UNDER THE COMPETITION (if there really is any). Even the cost of insurnce is reasonable (due to the fact that Mazda studied the industries actuarial tables thoroughly before settling in on the 1.8 liter displacement).
