Money Pit by New Benz owner in S.S MD on 09/24/2003. Trim: 1996 BMW 740iL, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Styling, comfort and safety of driving mini limosine. VOB Dealer in Rockville MD treat you with dignity. Free loaner car and always returned on time. Big enough to carry four adults in comfort.
Cons: Cannot place golf bag in truck horizontally. Maintenance and repairs on this vehicle is absured. Be prepared to spend thousands of dollars to maintain and drive. Car is engineered to self destruct at 100,000 miles. Cup holder fell apart. Trash holder and cigarette lighter in rear seat area fell apart. All kinds of problems with electronics. Expansive, Expansive, Expansive!!!
Overall review: Other than replacing head gaskets, water pump, Oil pump, radiator, head lamp assembly, power steering hoses. catalytic converters, rear light asemblies, rear suspension, cluster panel assembly, radio, alarm system, entire brake assembly every 30,000 miles and the list goes on. I would recommend purchase of this car because, after all you are helping BMW continue their research and development to sell you another big ugly BMW like the new 745i.

One of the best BMW by Q from Potland, OR on 03/30/2004. Trim: 1996 BMW 740iL, Owned 1 year.
Pros: What an incredible car. Everything about it screams beauty, refinement, power and handling.
Cons: The transmission fluid is incredibly expensive to change and BMW charges way to much for the cats.
Overall review: I don't see myself ever selling this car.

Classic. by Houston on 07/22/2003. Trim: 1996 BMW 750iL, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Obscene luxury. Power rear seats, power headrests, double pane windows...EVERY possible option on the 740 is in the 750. Gas mileage is not bad. The 5.4L V-12 is bullet proof. It was the 5.0L V-12 that had some issues. Looks on pimple-face teenagers as I pass their Mustang GTs are priceless.
Cons: Geared for high speed highway cruising. A little more pep off the line can easily be achived by replacing the 2.82 rear differential with one off a 740.
Overall review: Excellent luxry sedan.

The Ultimate Tank by General George Patton on 05/15/2003. Trim: 1996 BMW 740iL, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Styling, prestige of BMW performance and it's 7 series. Big enough to haul family of five. You can feel safe and secure driving a 4000 pound tank. Was in car accident recently. The other car was totaled. The tank barely damaged! Police could not believe it. Drove the tank home.
Cons: When warranty expires get rid of the car. Otherwise expect to pay huge repair bills. Car reached 100,000 miles and dealer gave me estimate of $7,500 dollars to repair all the items that should have been covered when car was under warranty. Once again Screwed by the dealer. Some items replaced while i have owned the car are Head Gasket, Valve cover gaskets, Radiator, Water pump, Rear suspension parts, Oxygen sensors, Rear light housings, entire interior cluster panel (LED), Radio, power steering hoses, Alarm system, Exhaust converters and the list goes on. Be prepared to spend on the average of $1,000.00 for brake job every 30,000 miles.
Overall review: I would not recommend this car to anyone, unless they are prepared to spend Approx. $5,000.00 dollars a year to maintain. It is without doubt the biggest piece of junk I have purchased so far in my life time. A life lesson learned. Never again for BMW! Hello Japanese Engineering.
