The perfect SUV by Rod, Sammamish WA on 12/22/2011. Trim: 1997 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: I have owned this car since it was new, 140K on it an going strong. I like the way it handles, leg room, head room and visibility is excellent. It does everything I want it do and more. A true SUV!
Cons: Repairs are expensive, but worth it. Find a trusted mechanic.
Overall review: Yes, a Land Rover is expensive to repair and 13 miles per gallon is standard but I'm having a hard time letting go of the perfect car for me.

Nice looking SUV, horrible maintenance by An MSN Autos Consumer on 05/26/2008. Trim: 1997 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 8 years.
Pros: Classic look, very nice exterior
Cons: Horrible maintenance, it breaks down all the time. If it's not the engine, it's the brake or oil leak. Endless troubles, both major and minor.
Overall review: Just prepare to spend a lot of money to fix it, the higher the mileage, the more problems you experience. Oil leakage is a very common problem.

British Aluminium by Winston on 03/16/2005. Trim: 1997 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 8 years.
Pros: Awesome off-road prowess with British cool & eccentricity. Tough appearance with more refined features than the Defender. A true metal mountain goat. If you get stuck with this SUV, blame the driver and not the vehicle. Land Rover Legend. It will match and surpass any off-road vehicle out there. You can take it to the Gobi desert or the opera house.
Cons: Weak engine with poor gas-milage. Reliability is average or above average at best. Not quite up to standards with the Japanese but then again, you won't find a vehicle like a Land Rover in their lineup. Great off-road prowess, but poor accelaration especially when climbing steep hills on the highways. Not a vehicle if you want to drive it like a sports car. It is a off-road vehicle afterall.
Overall review: Outstanding off-road vehicle worthy of its Land Rover badge. Not a sports car so it will disappoint city driving or blasting by cars on the highway. On the dirt road, however, it is the King. Last of the real Land Rovers. Ford Explorers in disguise will replace all Land Rovers in the near future. The sun is setting for the British Empire.
