Landrover - Simply the Best by Bobbima, from Bath, UK on 11/10/2000. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: It goes anywhere, anytime. Its comfortable yet rugged, powerful yet easy to drive. It has a superior driving position on the road so if the worst does happen - your in safe hands. It is economic to run and will cover almost 600 miles on one tank - if driven with care.
Cons: It does not have the acceleration of the new TD5 so lacks some speed when overtaking and cruising on the motorways / freeways.
Overall review: The best car I've had so far - and I have yet to get behind the wheel of a new TD5 or a RangeRover.

The Best 4X4 by far by Chadly on 12/29/2010. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: There is nothing to dislike this vehicle, it is a triumph of British engineering and design...
Cons: The braking system has a few minor flaws and is a bit small considering the overall weight of this vehicle (6060lbs.).
Overall review: This vehicle is a very well designed vehicle with a myriad of accessories. The drive train is exceptional and beyond heavy duty. The exterior styling is functional yet still exudes class. The 1996 Land Rover Discovery SE7 is at home in any situation rather it be driving out to the north forty or downtown going to the opera.

Ole Faithful by JENN from MA on 08/12/2003. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Bought this car with 20K ODO now reads 167,588-still loving it. 1 Tuneup, 1 upgrade to Bilstein Shocks, 1 Stainless steel exhaust plus dual Catalytics, 1 brake job, and NOTHING ELSE!!! This totals out to about 3500$ over 6.5 years includes labor at local mechanic. WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM DEALERS SERVICE DEPT!! Buy online and save big $$. Most of this stuff is really easy to do. Exhaust was only thing requiring effort. Car has been a benchmark to compare other SUV's to. Fantastic to drive in all weather conditions...Snow is NO problem at all. Definitely has me convinced to buy a new Disco when this one is ready for retirement, but that may be a long time to go!!!
Cons: Nothing. Gas mileage has AND CONTINUES TO BE 15MPG. Dealerships are my only complaints. Find a Good Mechanic and you are all set with major repairs.
Overall review: Fantastic ride...Solid investment...See one, buy one. Nothing else to say. Blows the H2 out of the water!!! And you won't need a 2nd mortgage to buy it either...

Prestige but a Gas-Guzzler! by Where's the next Gas Station? in Atlanta, GA on 07/30/2002. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Tough, classy appearance. Prestige of owning this SUV. Handles off-road like a charm! Very roomy; great if you have kids, grocery, and extra passengers travelling at the same time. The rear jump-seats are comfortable enough to endure at least a six hour trip to the beach! (I promise!!) You'll feel very safe driving this SUV!
Cons: Cost of servicing this vehicle is unbelievably astronomical !!! Terrible on gas mileage! Most automotive stores do not carry supplies/parts for this SUV; you have to get them straight from the dealer, at a higher cost.
Overall review: Most prestigeous SUV on the road today. Excellent handling. Very roomy; definitely a family vehicle. Don't purchase if you're looking to save on Gas!
