Landrover - Simply the Best by Bobbima, from Bath, UK on 11/10/2000. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 4 years.

Pros: It goes anywhere, anytime. Its comfortable yet rugged, powerful yet easy to drive. It has a superior driving position on the road so if the worst does happen - your in safe hands. It is economic to run and will cover almost 600 miles on one tank - if driven with care.
Cons: It does not have the acceleration of the new TD5 so lacks some speed when overtaking and cruising on the motorways / freeways.
Overall review: The best car I've had so far - and I have yet to get behind the wheel of a new TD5 or a RangeRover.

The Best 4X4 by far by Chadly on 12/29/2010. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned more than 10 years.
1
Pros: There is nothing to dislike this vehicle, it is a triumph of British engineering and design...
Cons: The braking system has a few minor flaws and is a bit small considering the overall weight of this vehicle (6060lbs.).
Overall review: This vehicle is a very well designed vehicle with a myriad of accessories. The drive train is exceptional and beyond heavy duty. The exterior styling is functional yet still exudes class. The 1996 Land Rover Discovery SE7 is at home in any situation rather it be driving out to the north forty or downtown going to the opera.

Takes a lickin'... by Roven, NM on 06/08/2001. Trim: 1996 Land Rover Discovery SD, Owned 4 years.

Pros: Fun to take off road, tows very well, nice on the interstate, overall a really good vehicle. Pleasent dealer experiences, outside of Las Vegas that is (I've been to over 2 dozen in my travels).
Cons: Repairs can be spendy--I fear the day something big goes. Probably catch it on fire and call the insurance man...uh, maybe I shouldn't be writing that here...
Overall review: 107,000 miles and running like a champ. If I were to purchase a used Disco, I'd have it checked by some one that knows Rovers. Don't skimp on the preventative maintanance and you will have a fine car.

Great 4 X 4 by Land Rover I on 04/15/2013. Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: Great 4 X 4! I live in an area which gets large amounts of snow. The SE7 Rover had no problems at all getting around with its all wheel drive and locking differential. The visability is great. Lots of OEM and after market accessories available. I purchased my Disco last year for $2,000 (96,000 miles) needing many items to repair. Parts were easy to find and install. Used OEM power mirrors for both sides cost me $70 shipping included. If you want to replace broken parts with OEM parts from the dealership - then this would not be the vehicle for you. If you have even the smallest amount of mechanical ability, you will be able to replace parts easily.
Cons: MPG is bad. If you want a 4 X 4 that will go anywhere - buy the Landy. If you want 40 mpg - buy a honda civic. V-8 could have had additional power - it's a little sluggish. (It is 17 years old.) Head liner's are an issue with this model. Position of the power seat switches on the side of the console was a bad idea - they were expensive to replace.
Overall review: You can get these special purpose vehicles cheap now because of the price of fuel. Most will be low milage becuse of the MPG. The ride is great. A roof basket and rear cargo basket will add a ton of interior space for vacations. I will install my snorkle this summer. The dual sunroofs work great and do not leak. Keep up the maintenance on this vehicle and it will not let you down. This is not a vehicle for someone who is going to check the oil level annualy. Takes high octane fuel and adding an fuel additive every other month or so would be a good idea. I have around $3,000 in the vehicle so far and I am still well below the blue book value of this vehicle in the condition it is in. .
