Horrible Car by Amber From Ohio on 10/16/2011. Trim: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0, Owned 3 years.

Pros: I love the way the car looks. The tight steering is so much more comfortable for me to drive and I really like the way the interior was decorated.
Cons: Everything else. My car buns oil like no other. I have to constantly put oil in between oil changes. My check engine light is off and on. I have had transmission shifting problems SINCE I bought the car 3 years ago. Everything plastic breaks. My plastic piece for my bumper came off a few months after I got it, and one day on the freeway I thought I had a flat because the plastic underneath was falling off!! The moldings on the inside are falling down and I never spill anything on where I sit, though its starting to look like I bleach it every few months. Everything on this car is expensive to fix, and breaks easily.
Overall review: It looks pretty, and really gets up and goes but overall a horrible car to get. Everything breaks easily and is ridiculously overpriced to fix. Major mechanical problems start very early for this car. I'm at 152k now and I am trading this one in for a used Hyundai Elantra. Do not get one of these cars! Its cute, pretty, and stylish for a young girl but honestly, NOT WORTH the 8995 I paid for it.

Road Tripping by Julian on 03/29/2009. Trim: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6, Owned 8 years.

Pros: Very Fast. Have driven it twice almost to Artic Ocean (Inuvik) 750km of dirt road. Have driven it up a mountain in a foot of snow on a four wheel track. Sure I have had some minor problems with plastics but I bought it for the drive. At 104Km my clutch took out the transmission, but I drive it pretty hard. You can even sleep 2 6 foot adults if you leave the rear seat at home, fold down the back and use a foam mattress. Your legs extend into the trunk and it is very comfortable.
Cons: Minor plastic breakage like everyone else. You need to buy the BMW or Audi if you want the drive and the better materials.
Overall review: I have put this car through it's paces. Driven it like a rally car and it hasn't left me stranded. VW should probably address some quality issues, but I would still buy another one.

Can't kill this car by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/01/2013. Trim: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI, Owned 5 years.

Pros: Drives wonderfully, excellent fuel milage, best construction available
Cons: Plugging in during winter, slow to heat, expensive oil filters, weak-link is cup holder and glove box
Overall review: I've own several of these cars. All got well over 350,000 km before I passed them on to someone else. Very very durable, tough and personality filled car. Very reliable. But diesels do require special care and attention. They are not for everyone. You must treat them well. The cars are great to you if you are to them. I often get 60 mpg imperial. Extra well built, quality materials, even the doors are heavy.

Go Jetta Go by Moonshot from Metuchen on 09/30/2012. Trim: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros: The car is very fun to drive. It has a good balance and you feel the connection between the car and the road. The car corners wells and is very responsive. The VR6 Engine is solid and VW did not skimp out with its design. I now have over 130K on the car and I can say everyone that drives the car is a big fan with their driving experience. I have a 5 speed manual and shifting is smooth. For a car that has 174HP and low curb weight it will go pretty fast and just wants to keep on going. The dashboard design is also great. The blue and red combination makes looking at the dash easy and comfortable. The Rain sensor is also very cool.
Cons: You get what you pay for. For 19K new, there has to be some compromise and that is what VW did with this first generation style. There is plastic all over which contributes to the low weight of the car however it is a bit cheep. Yes there were a lot of electical and design flaws which added to the recalls, however VW has addressed those issues and reimbursed owners who paid for those repairs. After the common components such as the window clips, MAF, etc, the car was fine and did not repeat with any failures. The rubber components is also a design flaw and makes the car smell like crayons when exposed to hot days. The design of the rear seats will make adults feel cramped.
Overall review: A fun car to drive and would be a good first car to any driver. There were many positive things to say about this vechicle and the driving experience has been good so far.

This Jetta lives up to its name. by Bob from the Indianapolis area. on 07/16/2012. Trim: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros: I bought my 2000 Jetta new from the dealer. It has been without question the finest car I have ever owned. It has the VR6 engine and the 5 speed manual transmission. It is equipped with every option offered in 2000. Before the car was a year old I located an independent service technician to service the car. Currently I have 344,000 miles on my Jetta. It doesn't burn a drop of oil and will out perform any car in its class. It is an absolute blast to drive.
Cons: Nothing
Overall review: I purchased my 2000 Jetta GLX new in 2000. It currently has 344,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil! It has the VR6 engine and it has the 5 speed manual transmission. It is a blast to drive! It will out perform any car in its class. As soon as it was out of warranty I found an independent mechanic to do all of the service on the car. This may be the reason my car runs as well as it does.
