good second car
by buzz on the island on 03/26/2005.
Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem GL, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
car handles and turns well with 14 in tires the seats are firm and comfortable roomy for my small family auto overdrive on/off is convenient for hilly terrain adequate power when using O/D on/off switch easily maintained by do it your selfer
Cons:
Seats are leaned back too far, Brakes squeal and warp easily, engine will not wind up quickly(auto)engine rough at idle but quiet and smooth at moderate speeds then gets harsher above 2700 RPM door handles (outside) feel cheap and break easily ALA Ford Taurus, needs more interior storage and more cup holders
Overall review:
Good Value for the money in a used car not a boy racer just good gorcery getter and light touring

A good grocery getter
by Sly from DFW, TX on 09/03/2003.
Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem GL, Owned 2 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Standard tranny makes the get-up-and-go of this 1.6L 4-banger better. Corners well and rides ok. Nice factory speakers by Clarion (dual cone). Sounds even better when a higher quality in-dash unit is used (Kenwood CD deck in my case). Light car, but still heavy enough to not get blown around by winds too badly.
Cons:
Doesn't handle rough driving (agressive driving) well, and getting parts for it is a joke (minumum wait is 3 weeks for parts that do exist). Seats are NOT good for long trips, though well suited for around town since the bucket style keeps you in place when cornering. Paper thin sheetmetal makes dents easy to make and hard to remove.
Overall review:
A great car if nothing goes wrong, but if something does go wrong, expect to WAIT to get it fixed... even at the really GOOD places. A good car for those who can't afford better.

Fitting name for a fine little car
by komputerjeanyus on 04/21/2003.
Trim: 1999 Suzuki Esteem GL, Owned 4 years.
Useful?
Pros:
I liked that when I bought it new it was several thousand dollars cheaper than Toyota or Honda and it is Japanese made...not Korean. Suzuki did their homework and built a quality automobile that is in line with the Civic or Corolla. Gets good gas mileage and it is very dependable.
Cons:
It is a little under powered for my liking but, it does fine at highway speeds and I have taken it across country twice with out incident. My other complaint would be that the resale is low.
Overall review:
Great car...I hope to drive it until it has 300,000 on it!
