Nice looker but tired and thirsty
by Stu Clark NJ on 01/25/2013.
Trim: 2013 Kia Sportage LX FWD, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
We liked the styling and the 100k powertrain warranty. The advertised mileage ratings were ok.
The car handles well and fit and finish is good.
Cons:
The fuel mileage is poor. I am not a hard driver and am getting 18.5 around town and 23 highway. KIA has admitted overstating the mileage and created a program to compensate owners but it does not come near paying for the extra fuel I use.
The power is not good, My 94 Voyager minivan could run circles around this car and it got better mileage.
The cars computer always overstates the mileage by 1 or 2 mpg compared with mileage calculated at the gas pump.
Overall review:
It is the right size car for my wife and I. It looks good and seems well made. I feel it is under powered and does not get near the rated fuel mileage.

Premium Vehicle Value Priced
by Sportager -- Los Angeles on 03/01/2013.
Trim: 2013 Kia Sportage EX FWD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
Unique styling: classy lines, nice 18" rims, tasteful amount of chrome accenting, beautiful exterior lighting. Not a lot of them on the road.
Amenities including: Giant glass roof, push button start/keyless entry, competent nav system, heated/cooled leather seats, Bluetooth, backup camera. Touch screen.
Drivetrain: powerful base engine, taut yet comfortable suspension. Transmission is conservative in Eco mode, shifts well in Normal mode.
Fit & Finish: Tightly screwed together, solid.
Best thing: Value
Cons:
Mileage: Averaging 22-24mpg.
Eco mode button buried in a series of menus.
Voice command system is cumbersome, it's easier to just flip through the touchscreen menus.
Leather on steering wheel looks and feels like a fruit roll-up.
A whole lot of plastic inside.
Overall review:
It's only been 1,000 miles but so far my Kia Sportage is aces. Powerful, comfortable, this vehicle is perfect for me becaue I like having all the bells & whistles but don't like paying premium because of name brand. My colleague has an Audi Q5 and my Sportage matches it in style, amenities and engine yet is thousands less. I didn't want the optional navigation at first but boy is was worth it. I get traffic piped in. The touch screen is far more responsive than the MyFordTouch. The bluetooth connects without fuss. The audio sounds fantastic. Fit & finish are top notch on Kia, though unadorned hard plastics on the dash look cheap in some parts like the cup holder and nice on the vents and gauges. Seats are cozy. Driving it is smooth yet sporty. I can hit corners hard and feel the road at my fingers through the wheel, or cruise like a 70s Caddy. I'd like a sport/eco button that could adjust steering feel, suspension and shift timing, and a better leather wrapping on the steering wheel.

Pros:
Love the 2013 Sportage LX AWD handling and looks. The 5yr 60,000 mile basic and 10yr 100,000 mile powertrain warranty was the deciding factor for our family.
Cons:
It is a small SUV and it shows in cargo space which we rarely need. Would like to see better fuel mileage.
Overall review:
The 2013 Sportage fits a certain type of need, living in South Dakota for in the city driving and negotiating hills in the winter, it's perfect and I highly recommend.
