A time machine by Pops on 04/03/2009. Trim: 1989 Jeep Wrangler Soft Top, Owned 7 years.
Pros: You are driving a American legacy ! Very versatile and fun to drive. Can be coaxed to go anywhere you point it. The shortness of the chassis & the classic body design has won many a hearts and can scrape round the tiniest of spaces. Without doubt you will be part of unique group of people and will have many a story to tell in your yonder years.
Cons: Where can one start? Mechanically, very badly engineered, Gas mileage is downright poor, once the carburetor packs up, find someone who knows what he is doing. The 4.2 lit engine has enough power but will not really serv you once it is past the 250,000km mark without some serious coaxing. Given that it is now 19 years old rust will be here to stay. Road noise, constant visits under the hood will be a part of driving the vehicle. It will mark it's territory with tiny oil leaks. Mine was a 4.2 lit but the 2.5Lit engine is said to be more economical, but it is hard to believe as it still has to push this square box down the road. First things first get a mechanical manual.
Overall review: Only mechanically obsessed people drive these machines, the skill will grow on you. However, there are many a happy owner who have gone from newb driver to highly knowledgeable mechanic in short order. There are many help groups, Owners & after market shops that will be or are willing to help you, that will make you proud after a few months of ownership. if you go with the flow, very few original parts will prevail. These vehicles can be coaxed to go anywhere, through mud, rock, rain and anything in between, and you will. When the sun is out, top down it is just simply glorious to be in one. Do not get this vehicle as a Daily Driver, this is a RV (especially of this age) unless you are a very lucky person who comes across a non abused, low mileage (below 50,000KM), stored specimen. If you are still serious look for a newer specimen, say post 1992 which came with the Fuel injected 4.0 lit engine, you will spend less time under the hood and i preferred the automatic.

AWESOME JEEP by Shortman From CT on 09/12/2006. Trim: 1989 Jeep Wrangler Hard Top, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Runs perfect, just keep up with the oil and take care of it. No rust and it looks great.
Cons: Nothing.. ITS an awesome Jeep and for being 17 years old it still looks great like day one.
Overall review: Keeping care of the jeep is key to keep it in keen condition and it will always run. With the ease of engine swaps, and so many parts on the market. Upgrading and expanding your jeeps capabilities is endless.
